ICR: Memory Problems?

by CHRIS HENS » Mon, 12 Sep 1994 15:25:18

        I've been having a lot of problems trying to boot up IndyCar Racer ...
Every time I started it up, I got the welcoming screen and then a bunch
of garbage, and I was kicked back into DOS (Leaving my screen in like 5
column mode :) SO, I made a non QEMM boot disk, and tried that. I
couldn't make a completely CLEAN disk, because of my Sound/FX drivers,
and Stacker's drivers, etc, but I made it as clean as possible. This
time, when I tried it, I got the same welcome screen, but it just locked
up (No screen of garbage, no kick to DOS, just a hard lock) so it's
obviously a memory problem.

        My question is this, have there been any updates of IndyCar
Racer to make it more compatible with any software? I'm running Stacker
4.O and QEMM 7.04, so I'm sure it's a conflict with one/both of those...

I have had the best success forgoing using QEMM (it does slow down the
frame rate just a hair) and use HIMEM instead.

config.sys
[indycar]
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
dos=high
DEVICE=C:\FUSION\MVSOUND.SYS D:3 Q:7 J:1 x
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /P

autoexec.bat
:Indycar

C:\STACKER\CHECK /WP
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\DOS;C:\FUSION;c:\stacker;
c:\fusion\pas set volume to 40
SET BLASTER=a220 d1 i7 t3
rem C:\FUSION\SB_ON
SET MOUSE=C:\msMOUSE
set TEMPDIR=c:\tmp
set TEMP=c:\tmp
set TMP=c:\tmp
set sound=e:\sb
cd \games\indycar

I think you should skip all memory managers, since ICR uses
it's own. Works geat for me - just hit F5 before your config.sys
is read, and then run Indycar.

And on the other hand, I use highmem & emm386 and everything works just fine.
