saw this on sierra tech support board

"VoodooNinja - 10:15am Apr 29, 2002 PST
After conversing with Eric Busch of Papyrus I got this reply today. Here is
a quote from the E-Mail

"I'm not disputing the loss of D3D framerate in the patch. It's definitely
there, we're just trying to track down what the ultimate cause is. I can say
that for some users it simply is a v-sync issue. In the original version we
had v-sync disabled by default, however now in the patch we have it enabled
by default. Many of our users have never disabled v-sync in their D3D
properties, so their framerates are will be refresh locked after applying
the patch. You said you've already disabled v-sync, so the issue is to now
determine what is causing the additional hit for you. It's most likely due
to a pageflipping fix that was implemented to fix the Nvidia 23.11 lockups
in the UI, and we're working with Nvidia on another fix or workaround. As a
temporarily solution to those affected I'm going to allow the unpatched
rend_d3d.dll to work online with the patched executable."

yr kyro than the d3d?  just wondering exactly what's better and if worth the
hassle.  uggh, downloading the whole demo for one little bitty file, jeez.

I'm unable to say, because like I said I'm not able to run the 3d
configuration setup inside NR2002.  In fact, of everybody that has a Kyro
II, I know of nobody that is able to run it.  It all hangs up for the most.
The best is to stick with D3D at this moment.  I doubt Papyrus will ever
care about Kyro II owners, unfortunately.

Well I already had the demo on my HD :)

I don't know what your definition of caring is...but we've seen a thread
here showing Eric/Papyrus working with Kyro.   At least, if I read it
properly, you can slap the episode 1 d3d,,,I mean the Version 1 d3d file in
and race online.
good luck..

It's pretty easy imho.  It worked in the demo.  It doesn't work in the full
release.  After a patch, it still doesn't work.  That goes in my definition
of not carring ;-) ;-(

That was back in February.

I'm trying to remember if they ever got the 3dfx patch done for N2?  or
the 3dfx patch for Soda.  Or if they ever finished all the tracks in
Rendition3d for ICR2?   Or if they EVER got a working opengl patch for tnt
users that didn't bog-down the stoutest systems ?
It should have been obvious by now they tend to focus on one video option
and 'hopefully' the rest will fall in line....wasn't the whole point of D3D
was to have every hardware piece all work the same so that coders wouldn't
have to customize thier code for each different sound or vid card?
I took Eric's message about working with Nvidia and Kyro to fix these
issues as hopeful.  (since they've always blamed the hardware folks in the
past)   time will tell.

oops, my newsreader just threw that up recently...sorry.

There was a Glide rasterizer for the NROS, it used N2 so somehow, yes they
created one.  It was still a beta unsupported patch.

LOL dream on ;-)

Trusting Microsoft is like trusting Richard Nixon ;-)
