T-1 Steering

I've had my T-1 for two months now and definitely recommend it.  Since
there is no clutch to worry about, (there is a slot in the clutch
position. Interesting?) I usually double foot and use the left foot for
braking.  This works really well on fast road corners.  Off the gas, dab
the brake with some steering input and then pick up with the gas again.

A lot like my old B Prod racer.  Some major lurid slides can result.
My lap times dropped a bunch.  But, that may be due to my being hard
wired since age ten for this setup.  On circle tracks, turn in seems to
be much sharper.  No, opposite lock power drifts yet.  I don't think
they're possible (or desirable) given an Indycars' dynamics.  With the
old front engine cars, 289 Snake, Vanwalls etc., they were the fastest
way round. Riverside had two dandies where you'd clip the apex with the
car just on the edge and balanced with ***y steering/gas inputs.

Only real criticism so far came from my youngest son, who seems to feel
that the rim diameter is too small and needs a glove or something.  I
don't notice it.  Maybe, because I'ved driven/raced so many cars since my
Wildfire, MG/TD, Abarth double bubble days.

I would love to see a NASCAR or classic sports racer sim/game with a clutch
option.  Anybody ever see the ESPN video footage of D. Allison (I think)
pedal dancing at Sears Point?  Way cool!

I asked the Thrustmaster rep about that extra slot in the clutch
position, he said if a game was released that supported the clutch pedal,
it would be a simple kit upgrade, able to be done by the user.

Incidentally, I didn't realise that Americans knew about manual cars :-)

Easy there, big fella.  You are talking to a genuine, third generation,
Southern California, car nut.  I date back to 50's Ford Tudors, with
flame paint jobs and MGTD's in CalClub racing, a '65 GT350, a '64 289
Cobra.
My dad goes back to
lakesters at Muroc Dry Lakes and a NHRA single digit membership card. He
also built and sold the first production fiberglass kit car, the
Wildfire.

My Granpa and his brother raced Vandebilt Cup and board tracks.  Think
huge chain drive Fiats,or Stutz, Mercer.  Translations are available for
the culturally deprived. <g>

Remember, Southern Californians invented the car culture.  I am an equal
opportunity car fanatic: Aussie? Holdens are cute. Limey? How about that
Mini Cooper S.  Say hello to Peter Buckles at Cox and Buckles/Moss UK,
the Triumph specialists.  Sure like the blower Bentley. Fastest truck in the
world.

Kraut? W-196, Merc makes me hard.  Would have liked to driven an Auto
Union. Frog? Three or for times a year I go down the road from where I
live and drool on Bugattis at the top US restorers.  Have I missed
somebody? Or, should I move this to alt.drippy.old.fart.nostalgia?

Love Indy car.  Cheapest racing I've ever done.  Love the T-1,
shifter reminds me of the pre-selector gearbox on the MG K-3 Magnette.

Cut hot laps, doodz. Later.
