Hi John,

Well I thought it would sound better than if I admitted that I'm just a
crazy simhead<g>! After all I'm supposed to be a sober, staid business
exec dont you know?

BTW you may not know this but we'll be offering genuine Momo steering
wheels on the TSW from now on :)! There will be piccys on the site later
today or tomorrow, have a look and let me know what you think, OK?

Hi Randy,

Oops, sounds closer to a flame<g>!

I don't see the trees going onto the

I dont understand what you mean there, petty? Its just an honest
observation of fact, this is in either the***pit or external views,
the bottom part of the green billboards extend through the armco at
least a foot into the track surface at Disney. At PIR and some other
tracks we have a mix of 2D tree billboards and good looking 3D trees.

As for where do I drive from? I use both the behind the car position and
the incar, it depends on what mood I'm in :) I like the external views
for learning a roadcourse and the incar for racing.

Well if so, this should have been stated somewhere, I'm sure that there
are a lot of guys out there who would want a good dirt track sprint car
game besides myself, IMO this one doesnt even come close.

But in the IRL cars you

I agree with you there.

I maybe should have said "as far as I can see" or "IMO" on that
Unfortunately in the copy I bought the AI is as described. I did like
the way the dirt cars drive though and thats about the only thing ABC
got even close to what IMO makes a sim.

I dont know why, all I stated is my honest opinion, there is nothing
personal in it and I very much doubt that it will make TRI a success or
a failure<g>!

Uh, I think you are hurling mud at the wrong target, dude. I haven't
treated you in any such way. I have only reviewed and talked about the
game. Get your facts straight before you hurl mud at someone who hasn't
hurled any at you...gee talk about mob mentality....

didnt flame me for mine :) it is possible to have a reasonable discussion here
in RAS once in awhile<g>!>>

I know.  Its nice to occassionally have one.  My big problem is that the level
of vitriol in the forum towards this game is such that I fear that people who
might actually like the game with a low tolerance for being flamed to a crisp
or personally insulted are going to opt out of defending it.   Its really
bugged me seeing people come on here and accuse me of working for ABC, or
engaging in "corporate ***kissing" for daring to say a nice word about
Microsoft's support here.  I was thinking that if I was that easily influenced,
I'd sure as hell write a review trashing Indy Racing because it would make me
SOOOO much more likeable.  But I'm the kind of person who, while open to
persuasion, am not going to cave into a mob mentality against a game.  When I
first played the game, I was noncommittal about it, and the more time I spent
doing hot laps and tweaking the car setup, the more I liked it.  It was only
after that that I went online and read some of the incredibly extreme and
abusive posts about this game.  Since I do have seat time myself in a Skip
Barber car, I feel like I can say SOMETHING about a car's handling with some
degree of confidence, and I particularly liked the physics model of this game.
I agree with the observations about the damage model, but I'm the kind of guy
who'd rather race than crash.  Ubi Soft has a great damage model.  You get
tapped in the rear -- blam flat tire and you're out of the race. Realistic?
Surely.  Fun?  Not hardly.  I spend more time hitting "Restart Race" on the
pause menu than I do racing, and spend more time worrying about where the next
contact is going to come from than I do racing.  Other people might have
different priorities.  I'd like to see the damage model substantially improved,
but my experience suggests that the computer AI is not as bad as has been
reported here -- and I'd like to know how many of the people complaining about
it did some replays to examine what happened, and perhaps looked at the replay
from the in-car of the offending AI car to see what happened from THEIR point
of view?

find it too bad, at least in the sprint portion which is all I'm interested in
anyhow.>>

Its also quite nice in the IRL portion.  As an open-wheel oval simulator I
enjoy it.

are no such plans and so it will remain bargain bin bait AFAIC :(!>>

Why do you say there are no such plans.  In the few conversations that I had
with Real Sports, I got no inclination they are abandoning this product.

It wasn't meant to.  It just seemed like this is more of a nit than a game
killer.

I wonder whether this is a 3D board problem.  I observed no such cut through at
Disney on my Riva 128.  Z-buffer problem maybe?  What board are you using?

personal in it and I very much doubt that it will make TRI a success or a
failure<g>!>>

The only reason I said I was disappointed in you was because it seems like a)
you left out the IRL portion almost entirely, and b) you had very little to say
about the IRL car physics & setup options.  To me the most important element is
that you gain the illusion you're driving an IRL car around Indy or wherever,
and it seemed like most of your criticisms were either aimed at graphics
glitches, sprint car AI or the damage model.  I just figured as a driving
enthusiast you'd have at least given it credit for a darned good physics model
insofar as driving and setting up the IRL cars was concerned.

>So is idiocy.

Very nice.  You know exactly what I'm talking about.  After the way
I've been treated here for having the gall to ask for some balance in
the way people evaluate this sim, I doubt anyone else that lurks and
like this game is going to say anything for fear of being treated the
same way.
