Haven't downloaded it yet but I imagine it's basically the pre-1995
track (like in GP2) minus the chicanes?

Drool! Only one hour left now :) I'm so e***d of this Imola track
because it represents some of the mystery of vintage F1 racing which
GPL relieved so good. Among those tracks are also Banked Monza, Rheims
and AVUS.

I don't know if anyone follows, but 11 years ago when I was only 14 I
was in Berlin and my father showed me the great banked corner of AVUS,
and it looked like a lost relic of motorracing. It was so big and
overwhelming, and I couln't quite belive that they actually raced on
it.

Now, i'm loosing it...

According to Forix,  the Circuit Enzo e Dino Ferrari first hosted a GP in
1980, won by Nelson Piquet.

Huh, you think you've got it bad. Here I am, working at home so I downloaded
the track first thing this morning and installed it. B U  T my MSFF has gone
for repair (another week to go!) so all I can do is tootle round using the
keys or watch Jim Clark drifting round the bends...

BTW I read Dave Noonan's note about the limitations of the graphics but does
everyone have a green wall around the track?

Seriously considering by a Logitech as a spare wheel if they hadn't
announced a new one real soon.

The first F1 race was held in 1963, unofficial and without Ferrari. Jim Clark
dominated the race (big surprise there, eh?).

It's been knocked down, now hasn't it?

They tried to do a version of Avus in "Spirit Of Speed", but they decided
that the straight up and down bits were too boring, so it wiggles and
curves like a mountain road! AFAIK the real Avus was straight between two
bends, one banked and the other not.

You're kidding me! I thought Avus was like it was in Sos, never looked
at a real track map... only 2 straight and 2 bankings, then the track
is quite boring in real life!

Also I think each straight was 6km in length!
The Silver Arrows apparently lapped at 270kph before the war...

Nope, at it's greatest extent the straights were 6 MILES in length, for a
track length of just over 12 miles. Nearly all of it flat out and dead
straight, and THEN the monster bank in the middle, and hairpin turnaround at
the other end.

The track was succesively cut down, bit by bit over the years. After the war
the track was half in the eastern sector and half in the western sector.
