Heh, I knew you would read this promptly. Anyway,
DAMN YOU Sierra/Papyrus for forcing megabytes of redundant and useless
files in my C: partition!!! Why the hell do you need to put files to
both in my game directory e:\games\gpl_demo\ AND under
C:\Program Files\ ???
DAMN YOU Sierra for forcing that stupid "SIERRA" in the path. Tried to
install under e:\games\gpl_demo\, BUT NOOOOOOOO, you just had to say
"Sorry this is no good", and tried to install under
e:\games\gpl_demo\Sierra\GPLdemo\. Bunch of retards, that's what you
are!
DAMN YOU Sierra/Papyrus for NOT cleaning up the installation files
from c:\Windows\Temp\ after the installation!!!
Ok, enough of that. The demo itself seems very nice, the car behaves
nicely, the virtual***pit is great with very good looking tires and
mirrors. The scenery doesn't look that great though comparing to F1RS,
more like CPR or Nascar 2, but then I prefer simpler graphics if that
means good framerate all the time. The input is very precise with my
Sidewinder Pro joystick using the DirectInput choice. Good work
overall.
But am I missing something or where are all the other drivers? Can
I only drive alone in this demo? I mean, many of you have already
crowned this as the new kind of driving sims? WITHOUT even seeing any
of the computer driver AI, or how low the fps gets with full set of
cars in front of you? Please tell me it isn't true! F1RS runs very
nicely and smoothly even on P133-P166 when there are no other cars on
the screen, but the frame rate problems started when you saw 24
computer cars in front of you in a chicane.
Ok I admit that Papyrus have a very good track record making driving
sims, but this demo appears to be very incomplete to make any final
judgements about how good this sim will really be. No computer cars,
no modifications. Unlike for some, this demo still doesn't convince me
away from F1RS, not even near. Let's hope the full version comes out
soon.
