Best Banshee Board?

Best Banshee Board?

by Richard J. Koche » Wed, 30 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hi,
I have decided to get a Banshee board, but I'm not sure which brand is
best.  I want great performance in GPL, but would like AGP (so no
Voodoo2), plus I am on a tight budget.  I currently have a Stealth 2
(Rendition), but it is holding my system back (P2-350).  I have Windows
98 and a big, wide open AGP slot.  I have thought about the Thriller 3D,
but I would like a board that will be fast for a while.  Also, what
frame rate can I expect at 1024x768 with one of these cards?

Thank you,
Ryan Kocher

My advise is to buy the one that is the cheapest, as they are all based on
the same chipset. GPL should run in the 30+ fps range for you. I had some
problems with the CL Banshee Blaster, but fixed it with drivers. You should
be very happy with the frame rate increase with the Banshee.

I've a Phoenix card and the framerate in GPL is great, the only problem is
that you get strange colors in GPL (not seen this in other games). I think
it's a typical GPL problem. I read about this in this ngp, but i haven't
found a solution.

If you like flightsims to (F4, TAW etc.) go for the Banshee.

Good Luck

Don't have anything in the 2d backround in windows and that fixes GPL with
the weird colors.
