I have an AMD2200-512 ram- geforce 3 - Windows me - via 4 in 1's - tried
various geforce drivers etc

I am running at approximately 20 fps dipping to 15 at Spa.  Is this normal
for this game?

The 3d setup says that I am getting 24 million triangles.

Cheers all

Depends, is that when you are racing or testing?  And if racing is that
at the starting line or after the race is under way?  Based on your
triangle rate though I think there is something set up wrong, you should
be getting higher numbers than that.  Unfortunately my config is much
different than yours so I doubt that I can help you.  Check all the
normal stuff....  make sure vsync is off in the control panel, try it
with FSAA off, and in the graphics setup for F1 2002 if any of the
detail level descriptions are colored red turn them down.  I doubt that
the latter is the problem since your triangle rate just sounds too low
for your config, but check anyway.

AMD1600XP-512RAM-GF4 Ti 4400 (30.82) - WinXP - NO VIA.

I get 36.8M triangles in 3d set-up for 1280x1024x32-bit with NO FSAA.  Start
of race with full field and back of the pack I get 30-35 fps, during the
race it's in the hi 40's to hi 50's depending on traffic.  I used to get a
stutter near the S/F line of many tracks but that's gone with the 30.82's.

think you should be able to do better.  I have the Detonator 40.72's.  If
you have the Omega drivers, those sacrifice speed for graphic quality.
turn off fsaa and make sure the Vsync is disabled, you'll need coolbits or
rivatuner to do that.
good luck.

Have you got an FF wheel? My Thrustmaster Ferrari FF wheel kills the frame
rate by almost half when FF is on. Thankfully  It's a bit better with the
latest drivers.

I think the GF3 is the limitation on your system.
Try reducing Shadows to Medium - they are real fps-killers,
and make shure fsaa is turned off.

Here' how I get better FPS:
Kill FSAA
Kill Shadows
Use Nose view hence...
Kill***pit anim (mirrors & wheel)
Race On-line fewer cars=Better FPS
Use LOW for FF, 0= no effect on FPS (Best rate) Low = -10, Medium = -20 Full
= -30 (These last figures may be a little exagerated ( it's more in 0-20
range))

So, basically you're a stick-man driving a vector-drawn race car :)
