I am getting extremely frustrated trying to get sound out of NFS. I have
managed to get sound out of IndyCar II with the same hardware, so I know it
can be done, but... DOH!
I have a Gateway P5-133XL with an Ensoniq Soundscape card. According to
Ensoniq, Dos games can be run in Dos mode if the following are added to the
autoexec.bat that will be used for the game:
SET BLASTER=A220 Ixx Dx T1
SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
and then add C:\SNDSCAPE\SSINIT /I in the dosstart.bat.
I have gotten it to work before with Indycar II using .pif files and
without using the global autoexec.bat or dosstart.bat. If I take their
recommendation and use the SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM line, I get an
error about it not finding the sndscape.ini file. That's because it's in
my c:\windows directory, NOT in the c:\windows\system, and from what I can
tell, that's where it should be.
The following are the config.sys and autoexec.bat .pif's I am trying to
use. I have also used these config.sys and autoexec.bat files on a bootup
floppy which contains all the appropriate files referenced, and still no
go. Everything seems to work, I hear the speakers pop as the soundcard is
initialized, but just plain 'ol NO SOUND. I'm kind of stumped... Any
ideas???????
(config.sys)
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=F:\NFS\TSYCDROM.SYS /D:TSYCD1 /P:SM
lastdrive=z
(autoexec.bat)
F:\NFS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:TSYCD1 /l:z
SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS
SET BLASTER=A220 Ixx Dx T1
C:\Sndscape\SSINIT.EXE /I
Thanks for any help you can give...
