Jebus!  You're comparing Reindeer Games (a silly, non-sensical ***filled
with plotholes that doesn't have a once of meaning beyond the simple action
on screen) to Barry Lyndon and other Kubrick masterpieces.

Barrly Lyndon, now there's a cinematography masterpiece. Have to get
that on DVD one of these days.

No - I'm comparing directors, and listed movies that I'd seen by each.

The supreme god of movie-making versus a B-movie director.  TKO in the
fourth round.

I mean cmon, just watch the Island of Dr. Moreau.  Frankenheimer has much
bad movies as he did good ones.  You only remember Grand Prix because of
it's technical aspect of on-screen racing.   Kubrick has made masterpiece
after masterpiece, until he died.

Your opinion.  I disagree.  That's still allowed, isn't it?

Does it really matter *why* I like and remember Grand Prix?  I'm sure some
people only like the movie because they like Eva Marie Saint.  So what - it
still gets them to watch the movie...

2001 may be a great film.  I'm interested in seeing it, but it's more
curiousity of what all the fuss is about.  It's been out for more than 35
years.  Since I *haven't* seen it yet, it's obviously not that high on my list
of priorities.  Why does that seem to get people in an uproar?

if you are like me, you'll then have to watch 2010 to understand just
what 2001 was all about.

Because 2001 started out as science fiction, but now you're *so* late
that 2001 actually is Past Tense Eldred ;)

What about that piece of trash with Kidman and Cruise?

If you want a god of movie making, look to Speilberg or Lucas.

Just my opinion.

I totally agree with that, I didn't like 2001 (I only saw the film)
before seeing 2010, and afterwards it went up in my estimation,
although I still think its rather overrated.

T'was not.  Just went over the head of many.  Anyway, it's a masterpiece
compared to the dozen of trash movies that Frankenheimer made.

Please exclude Lucas.  And I'm a big SW geek.

No man Eldred it's just not an opinion versus the other.  You've seen like 3
movies of Frankenheimer, one being a really bad one (Reindeer games).  You
then compare them both as directors.  That's like comparing James Horner to
Bernard Herrmann <G>

I agree.

Not sure there's another director whose work I pretty much like in its
entirety.  Peter Jackson maybe?

Even "Forgotten Silver"?

I would add to this list, Robert Bresson, Hayao Miyazaki, David *** and
Krzysztof Kieslowski.

Han shoots first... not only my opinion. ;)

They colorized Stan & Laurel, now Lucas ***s up his legacy.
Where will they stop? Let's give John Wayne a female voice over...

It's still an opinion(on both sides).  You think Kubrick is a god, I don't.
There are still other directors I like more.  The fact that I picked
Frankenheimer(to sort of keep on topic) rather than Spielberg, Peter Jackson,
or someone else doesn't matter.  And I don't know who James Horner *or* Bernard
Herrmann are, so I can't comment on them...

Besides - I'm an atheist, so Kubrick *can't* be a god. He actually
existed...:-)
