GPL internet hosting problems

by Mick Smit » Mon, 30 Jul 2001 01:39:38

Hi,

I'm new to this group. I've done my best to read through the 3500 messages
that I downloaded to try and find an answer to my problems  :-)  No joy.

I have a cable modem which is connected to a 'gateway'  PC, which is then
connected (via a hub) to other machines in my house.

When I host a race on the gateway machine, I can connect from the machines
in my house, but not across the internet. Although it is possible to ping
and traceroute the path to my gateway, any attempt to connect results in
'timeout' errors.

I can see nothing strange about my game settings or network configuration in
the operating system.

I just can't figure why it wont connect even though it can 'see' the
netcard.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Mick

What software are you using for routing?  It sounds like you may be blocking
the ports that GPL needs on the WAN side but you have full access on the LAN
side.

Appearently your gateway is blocking the ports that GPL needs, perhaps you
run a firewall on it? See the 1.1 readme in your GPL dir for a description.
