Is he thinking of racing again?  I could compare his situation to Douglas
Bader, who became a WWII ace for Great Britian despite having two
artificial legs...

Or Archie Scott-Brown who was a very accomplished sports car racer back
in the 50's despite being severely handicapped, can't remember the full
extent of it, but I seem to remember that he didn't have full use of
neither legs and one arm, which makes the fact that he beat several of
the more well known names while racing on British tracks, apparently he
was denied an international competition license and the only major race
he participated in outside of Britain was at Spa, where he crashed out

Can't really see anything similar happening today though, at least not
in the higher levels of motorsports as you need to be extremely fit as
well as having a driving talent to succeed, although Alex might be the
one to beat the odds...:-)

Beers and cheers

Why not?  Evan Evans is a parapalegic and races his offroad truck with hand
controls.  I don't see why the same couldn't be done for a touring car for
Zanardi.

But I do believe his days of F1 / CART / IRL are probably over.

"Milhouse" > Why not?  Evan Evans is a parapalegic and races his offroad

I wonder if a racing organization would allow a driver who couldn't get
out of a car unassisted.  I would love to see Zanardi race somewhere again,
but the danger to himself in a crash would be TREmendous.

read the article today, thanks to derek daly for info on qually
telecast,.....the cart director of safety (don't remember his name was first
on the scene and slipped and fell on what he thought was oil....
dr terry trammell was basically the man who saved alex's life by using one
of the safety crew's trousers belt
for a tourniquet as alex's fem***arterys were severed and *** was
pouring out like "a bucket with a hole in it". his right leg was cared for
by wrapping his driver's suit leg across the stump and packing it with
gauze, but the left leg, the more badly injured had to be re-tourniqued
three times as it kept slipping off.  alex's hemoglobin count was now at 4
(16 is normal). while alex was being put in the medivac his wife
was frantic to see him and ashley judd-franchitti was adamant that she
should do so. daniella touched alex and he responded to her. at this point
dr trammell was screaming at them to get alex into the helicopter and out of
there to berlin. as you may have read elsewhere, alex lost 75% of his ***
volume. thank god
for drs trammell and olvey!!!

For those watching the Formula 1 over the weekend, they had an interview
with him. Told how just a couple of months after the accident, he drover his
wife and child home from the hospital... amazing, and at some sort of even a
short while after, he stood for the first time ever since the accident...
the room gave him a standing ovation and most if not all had a tear in their
eye when he did so.

He's one brave fella, and I wish him all the best.
