PDPI L4 and Standard Gameport Question

by 96ImpalaS » Wed, 02 Jan 2002 12:00:35

Hi...I'm new to the NG and I'm not even sure how many still have this card.
The only reason I still use it is to eliminate the "flickering" I have with
the SB Live Gamer 5.1 standard gameport.  It's so bad that N3/N4 was almost
unplayable with my TSW2.

Anyway, I've had this card for 2 years and I realize it doesn't like MS
joysticks such as the Sidewinder I have.  In the past I would take out the
PDPI card so I could use the joystick in the gameport when I was in my
flight sim mood.  Then replace the PDPI L4 when I was in my N3/N4 mood.
Huge hassle just to play games.

But I wonder wouldn't it be possible simply to plug the joystick in the SB
Live gameport and still have the TSW2 in the PDPI?  Both gameports are
active and available and use different resources.  My only issue is when I
load the Sidewinder software and try to calibrate in Control Panel, it's not
recognized.  Any suggestions on how to get the joystick recognized within
the standard gameport?

I ran both cards for years....just disable one or the other in device
manager. You then have to calibrate each time you switch....and reboot if
I'm not mistaken but you don't have to take cards in/out.

"flickering".....I have had this with my ECCI when I finally gave up the
PDPI card. Here are a couple of things to try:

Replace/clean the pots if they are old
Run a ground wire from your wheel & pedals to your computer chassis
Calibrate "short" , don't go to their full extents

MAKE SURE YOUR WHEEL/PEDAL WIRES ARE NOT TOUCHING ANYTHING IF POSSIBLE.
Especially speaker/power wires.

Give those a try.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give all those a whirl.
