Car Physics: Brake power how to define

Until now in my simulator I have defined the brake power as a per
wheel maximum potential friction force. This does not easily allow for
adjustable brake bias.

How do other simulators specify the brake power and bias?

I have 2 parameters, but it's a bit confusing and I might change it in
the future. I have maxBrakingTorque (the one you have) and
brakingFactor.

So the front and rear braking factor must add up to 1. By shifting the
factors, rather than the maxBrakingTorque (which wouldn't physically
be right, so harder to debug in your head, so just don't), you can
modify the brake bias.

It's confusing for a lot of people though, even myself. ;-)

don't think of it as "brake per wheel" but as "brake per car" and then you
can play with the values as long as they always come to the same "brake per
car" amount, after all, each wheel is a subdivision of the total wheels of
the car...

Hm, given 90-10 brake bias on some (a lot?) road cars, I'd question
this approach. How about locking each wheel apart? Surely you'll need
b(r)aking pow(d)er defined per wheel. Any which way, you'll end up
with an implicit braking torque per wheel no matter what. At least how
Colin is doing it, is not for the whole car. Can't do physics anymore
that way; it won't get further than Atari's Pole Position.
