WSC: Empire finally come clean...

by David Butte » Wed, 03 Jul 2002 20:46:08

After "siggy" (on the RSC forums) got a non-committal response from
Empire ("taking a back seat for a while" etc) when he asked about the
future of WSC, I thought I'd have a go, phrasing the question a little
differently to see if I could get anything out of them. The reply came
back today:

---BEGINS---

Hello,

The World Sports Cars project is not going to be released because the
project has been shelved.

Kind regards,
Customer Services

---ENDS---

Now, at first glance this looks bad, but consider: it's a definitive
answer. That is in itself an achievement, and an optimistic guess
(considering the "West Racing Countdown Fence") would be that the
various legal holdups are - at least in part - getting sorted out, and
the Wests are free to continue with WSC in their own way.

I expect that's wildly optimistic, but maybe we'll see in 10 days
time...

WSC: Empire finally come clean...

WSC has parted from Empire quite a while ago already. The PS2 version
will come out (if it hasn't already) but that's done by a different
team with different physics (as the console can't do the same
CPU-intensive physics as the original PC WSC has).
So by now the 2 are quite unrelated.

Don't know exactly what's coming in 10 days though.

Are you sure?, since there is a P3-733MHz cpu in xbox, and the fpu in the
PS2 should
be able todo quite a few mathematical things?. Im just wondering, since my
Duron 800MHz
which is slower on floating point-calculations will probably not be able
todo it then :(

Good point. It may also be then that the dispute was more over the
non-arcadish direction of WSC; in the end, the physics of the PS2
won't match those on the PC.

today's pic ("10") states that there won't be a demo at
goodwood, but some announcment on their project. Sounds
promising: finally some real news on WSC.

cheers,

uwe
