I thought I would pass this tip on again that someone posted a few
days ago, sorry can't remember who. Nobody else seems to have mentioned
this and even recall he didn't know exactly what it did.
I have a TNT2U and I'm not sure if it will work with Voodoo cards
or not. I mentioned it to two others that have TNT cards as well and they
had similiar results to mine. In fact one of the people with a TNT and P2
450
reported such a dramatic increase in performance and looks that he has
started
playing it after initially shelving it. The other person has a 600 Athlon
and TNT2U, I have a P3 oc'd 700mhz.
You must go to your win.ini file in your windows directory and add DVA=1
under the DrawDib header eg.

[DrawDib]
DVA=1

Not sure why but it seemed to speed up the graphics and the picture
quality!
Here is another tip that I found very useful for swap file management.

Better RAM usage under Win98 - Posted Monday, March 27, 2000 by Sun -

Do you wonder why Win98 keeps on swapping all the time, ignoring the fact
that you've got lots of memory plugged into your power machine? Then this
one might be for you.
Just tried this tweak I picked up from Lockergnome . Worked great for me
(I've got 128MB).
Add the following line to your system.ini under the [386Enh] section:

ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

Your system should be more responsive and you should have less hard disk
activity.

Don't forget you have to reboot your system before it will work!
Hope this helps.

Hi Pete.
Thanks a lot for the tip. It really helps!! I'm running an Athlon OC 700Mhz
and TNT2U at 175/220, so now I can have all settings at "medium" as long as
I turn off allmost everything in the mirrors, and set it to slow only 10
other cars.
Anybody having a PC where all settings are HIGH and 21 other cars, and still
have a nice framerate (>25 fps) ??

I did not have problem with the swap-file, I have 256MB, so maybe this game
try to use both disc-cache fully and a lot of memory at the same time.

Does you have other tricks?

In the 'World' sheet of options, I have everything at 'high'. Also, mirrors
on, environment mapping on, specular lighting on etc. and with my Athlon 750

It is interesting how performance seems to vary so much.
