Would anyone care if the driver chat during races was reduced to a series of canned,
non-changable messages,i.e. 'Exiting Pit', 'Pass Low', etc? As far as I can tell the
only current use is to call each ***s and to give phoney damage reports, 'Spin In
Turn 2' in an attempt to slow other drivers.

I like it the way it is. not everyone uses foul language and therfore
should not be hampered by those who do. As for phony spotter messages, I
find the real spotters come and go which makes me tend to not believe any
of the info unless I see cars spinning.Cannned messages we already have in
the ctrl-f1-10 keys.

BTW what the hell do people mean when they say  " Track looks mighty
suspisious, "  I see that message at least 20 times turning some practice
and race sessions on Hawaii. Between that and all the people who drive
backwards to qualify it drives me up a wall.

Currently I find the excessive chat (AWESOMEBILL !!) very distracting.
Not to mention the accidents caused by people typing instead of
driving. I dont know if "canned" messages is the answer though. Its
nice to be able to recruit some drafting help at times. I think the
simple answer would be for people to simply act responsibly. And thats
not so simple. As far as the "I'm sorry" or "You idiots", etc
messages, that should be saved for the post race chat room.

I do agree with you, but I really wish the in car chat messages would be
eliminated during qualifing first.  I'm all for letting everybody talk
in the garage, but just keep it off my screen while I'm qualifing.  Am I
the only one who finds this distracting?

Here's an idea that might cut down the chatter: Local Chat.  There is
really no need to tell cars in turn2 that you are 'Exiting Pits' or to
tell all the cars on the track that you want to draft.  There should be
some way to only broadcast messages to say 5 or 6 cars around you (sort
of on the same lines as the number of cars drawn ahead and behind).  I
guess then you would also have to add a key for Global Chat as well if
its something the entire field needs to know: reminding about single
file restarts, no passing on first lap, etc...

So...errrr... what do you do when somebody is all over you waiting for you to
***so they can get the line away from you? Do you choke?
Reason I ask is because I notice the irritation I get from flying chat is the
same as the irritation I get from having a driver right behind me (the chat
window and the rear view are in the same place, and since I went 20 odd laps
with somebody all over me like a cheap suit in a recent series race, I'd say
I have taught myself to Deal with the added input.  First and foremost I say
the chat kills, but if you can't deal with the flying chat, I'd say you don't
have nerves of steel and you are not timeslicing your concentration
effectively. Stay Frosty.

Not if you know how to exit properly

I have a card board/velcro flap taped to the top of my monitor.  I folds
down over the top of the screen to block the view of chat messages
during qualifiying.  When the flap is open, you see a printout of my
stored autochat messages, cut to size, attached to the inside of the
flap.

BTW, I heard AWESOMEBILL has another person sitting next to him
hammering out chat messages while he drives undistracted.

Thanks,

CT
