Yes I read that part, and tried setting up the gateway machine services
options (port numbers) with no luck. Perhaps part of the problem is that I
know nothing of linux, and as a result most of the things I have tried on my
gateway machine have not been much more than shots in the dark. Could you
share a little more info on what I need to do? Forgive my ignorance. TIA

You are using ICS, it has nothing at all to do with Linux, all you need is the port numbers
referenced.  If you know nothing about ICS thats another problem entirely.  Go here for ino about
setting up ICS to allow access on certain ports.

Well, I never did figure out what I was supposed to find there, but I thank
you for that tour of my operating system and lan. :)  No matter, it started
working without  me changing anything at all. Tried it over and over,
wouldn' t work, then it did once, then it didn't, now it does nearly every
time. Now I have a new problem. There is no way I can keep up with *anybody*
I have raced without running off the road and wrecking.
:(

3 words, practice, practice, practice....

Do that off-line until you can get within around 107% of the benchmark times(the included replays).

And may I ask why practice offline? Is that not what novice and intermediate
is for ? I mean if you enter a novice type race, you gotta expect that it is
what it say's, I was able to enter a intermediate race, and win once, not
saing im good or nothing, and I know for a fact that the majority of you in
this group, would severly kick my ass, but I haven't even been through all
tracks yet, and the 1 that I won, i had never been on, ok so there were only
5 that started, 3 droped out within the first 4-5 laps, and the 4th guy
dropped out, at the last or second last lap, when it was apparent that he
werent going to catch me, so maybee i caught some real inexperienced
drivers, but still I sure as my wife needs her coffee in the morning, which
is pretty sure, bought the game for it's reputation of online play, and have
been extremely pleased to see how huge the community of GPL Racers are. Just
my 2 Cents worth
