Oh... so why wasn't that fixed in 1.1?? ;-))

I agree with what you are saying. In arcade view, I can see things I
cannot feel within this (or any other) sim. F.i., in a real car, I
always *know* how much space I have to the right and left. I also can
feel when one of the wheels is about to leave the road / track. In
sims, I don't know / feel those things as precisely. But, using the
arcade view, I can *see* it and make corrections instead of spinning
out.

Having said this, the***pit view in GPL is just so immersive and
beautifully done I don't want to miss it. I'm still a bit slower using
it, but I like it soo much better than the arcade view. BTW, I only
started using the***pit view again after I upgraded my computer
recently. Even though the old setup gave me more or less constant 36
fps at 640x480, it's much smoother now. This makes driving in***pit
much more enjoyable.

Flak from the *** sim-heads, mainly. ;) You also do not have
mirrors, which makes racing (as opposed to hotlapping) more difficult.

I believe it was, in fact!

The problem was specifically with the Coventry, which was "wider" in
terms of collision than its 3D appearance suggested.

I have a classic replay of this making a real difference at the Glen,
where I made a great move on an AI car up the inside (or so I thought)
only to find both cars crashing off the road.

In the replay you can see that at no time do the cars get closer than
about a foot from each other.

According to Randy this was fixed in the 1.1 patch.

No idea.
The next time I attend a Sierra shareholders meeting I'll raise the
question! :o)

In 1.0 I drove the Coventry with patch.
In 1.1 I didn't use any patch, but feeling ok with the car-dimensions.

Seems to be fixed.

Jens

BTW: I use the chase view for learning a track (Yes, I didn't race all
the tracks yet). You can learn the efficient usage of the width much
better so. Later I change back to normal view, since there is more
sim-feeling.
