You know what would be even cooler? If you could just cross the straight
and drive straight from Parabolica to Curva Grande, skipping the oval
entirely! Wonder why no one thought of that track-configuration... :-)

GPL: Banked Monza?

Let's just say for crazyness that some has made a Monza Banked track
like the one at this web site:
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/images/trk_monza.jpg
Not the dark lines, but the track as it was. How in the ^&*% is GPL
going to know what lap anyone is on? I mean how would it know I did
not cheat and just run all ovals the whole time? I guess the same way
it can tell if you cut a corner, but can this depend on where you
exited last?

In looking at the page above, the track that is in black there looks
like fun.

If you treat that wide straight as two separate widths of track
section with, perhaps, a high curb or low wall separating them, it
would be impossible to cheat that way, so the game would not have to
be concerned about it.

That is, the left half is a separate section of track leading from the
banking exit to the Curva Grande and the right half is another
separate section of track leading from Parabolica to the entrance to
the banked section.  Between the two could be a wall, or armco, or a
line of Snetterton's killer rabbits. (I know *those* would keep me
honest! <g>)

I don't believe this would be a problem with pit access because it
doesn't really seem to me that the exit from the banking is far enough
back to afford safe pit entry anyway.  They'd have to have stopped
almost dead and then crossed the exit to Parabolica at nearly a
90-degree angle to make pit in.  I don't think the track officials
would have approved of that sort of thing...
