I'm a little confused about qualifying.  I was playing around at Talladega, and
I took the QUAL setup, modified it slightly, a qualified with a 191 (ok, I'm
new at this).  Opponent drivers were at a 80%.

I checked standing after qualifying, at I was still number 39 even though my
speed was greater than a large number of other drivers.

What gives?  Why did I start at the back of the pack?  I'm missing something
.. this is an area where the manual is lacking (it has about one paragraph on
qualifying).

missing something

Hi Howard:

When you qualified at Talladega did you run two qualifying laps and
get the checkered flag???  At Talladega you have to do your warmup
lap and then run two qualifying laps (best one is your qualifying
time) and then get the checkered flag.  If you abort your
qualifying attempt after the first flying lap, you will be placed
at the back of the grid no matter that your speed is faster than
some of the other drivers.  I think (may be wrong) that Talladega
is the only track this applies to in the NASCAR sim.  Just don't
back off until you see the checkered flag and you'll be okay.

Happy racing,

Ian

You have to go around another lap. You have 1 warp-up lap and then TWO
green flaggers. I think you forgot to go around one more time. :)
