It's being advertised as the most dangerous era in Grand Prix motor
racing.

Papy stated half the grid in the game never made it to the end of
their carreers. There are still people around with very painful
memories. It may just be too realistic for some.

I'll argue that they DID make it to the end of their careers.  Just not
in the method they had hoped, and much sooner than they had hoped.

Interesting and informative facts I'd say. How explicitely is this stated? And where?

Maybe we should prohibit the sale of tank, jet/prop fighter sims
because there are even more people around with very painful memories
of recent wars...

Yeah, sure Ford.
John Surtees, Dan Gurney, Chris Amon and Jack Brabham are all going to
rush out and buy it!

I've got painful memories of 30 years ago too....doesn't stop me driving
a car and certainly doesn't stop me doing other things associated with
that particular episode in my life.

This is marketing hype and you are over-reacting.

Byron.  The magazine ad in the US goes something like this.  It is a 2 page spread.  On
the first page it says.  "In 1968, the F1 ruling body changed the rules to cut down on
driver fatalities"   The next page it says.  "Welcome to 1967"

The picture on both pages is a real shot of a F1 start coming right at you.  Pretty neat
add but maybe a tad dark for a racing simulation.   Did not bother me but wondered if
they really had to go this direction to get people e***d about what is going to be a
great sim.

Just to be informative, the UK advert is also a 2-pager.

The first picture shows Graham and Damon Hill standing next to each
other in the pits at Monza in 1967. Damon is saying "Dad, I want to
race"

The second is a virtually identical picture, only Damon looks a little
more glum as Graham says "Not until October '98 Damon. You can race me
then".

I don't think this is a dark advert really, so maybe the marketing
strategies are different in every country?

Cheers!

agree.

however, i'm also of the somewhat extreme viewpoint that the world will
be a much better place to live when all the babyboomers drop off the
face of the earth.

there are 5 year olds "around" with painful memories.  citing a video
game as a player in anyone's mental anguish is the most laughable
reasoning i've seen to date.

OK, so it was a bit over the top. I'm just playing the dog in the

One can automatically tell that you have extreme views simply by reading
your address.
