Well, generally Intel Application Accelerators are just IDE drivers for
Intel's latest chipsets. I wonder how many haven't installed them... but
then again, if an AMD/VIA user forgets to instal Via 4in1 all the hell
breaks loose so... :)

The IAA is simply a replacement IDE Controller Driver. You'll notice that
if you install it, you'll lose the ability to control DMA in the usual
Windows location (the contoller entries in the device manager). Instead,
you have to use the IAA application/utility.
I've never seen hard-core tests between this and the normal Windows driver,
but I run it simply because it's easier to alter my IDE settings when I want
to.
