Sorry, I couldn't help it in this state turmoil but to think that how can GP3 could be an
update to GP2?  Believe me, years ago when folks began to bombard this newsgroup with
screenshots and scanned images of magazines depicting GP3 as the F1 sim of all sims, I
too was beginning to think that GP3 is the sim.  GP3 was like a ghost lurking somewhere
and ready to surprise us and ready to show the world this is the sim.  What do you know?
GP3 is just an update to GP2.  :-)  I should have suspected something fishy about those
screenshots early on.  I thought they were 3D hardware rendered.  I couldn't help myself
in thinking that how could this be because images looked pixel-like.

I am totally amazed by the current state of affair. :-)  I am shocked.

It may be an updated GP2.....but GP2 was an excellent sim.  The
weather effects and the 3d, as well as a car that behaves more like
what I believe a real car should behave (lighting up the tires in
second gear, spinning out when you loose grip, FF , geeze I like the
FF, and today I T-boned a McLaren and it flipped end over end down the
track, with each flip the car was breaking up more and more to the
point where it was just a***pit by the time it stopped....I cant
remember that ever happening in GP2.  Alot of improvements..........it
aint all that bad.:-)

I seem to have been doing that stuff for the better part of the year with
F1 2000.

That may be, but after all this time I think most sim racers expected a good
deal more than just an updated GP2.

And just think, people (myself included) have said Sir Geoffrey
doesn't patch his programs.  I stand corrected.  ;)

Yup. I agree totally there. As I have posted in other threads, my
expectations wherent that high for GP3.  Reason being I am a crappy
driver.:-)  So too much challenge for me makes for a bad sim.  The
rest of you have better systems, are FAR better drivers of sims, with
far superior video cards.  So I agree with your setting higher
standards.  ie; you have all driven F1 2K, I cant even see it!  Heres
an even better example.  I read a review of GPL before its release,
and the reviewer panned it!  Said the game was far too difficult to
drive, that the car had a constant habit of "jumping" off the track at
every corner.  Then from reading the raves in this group I came to
realize that the realism of GPL was the problem.  The reviewer was a
crappy driver too I think.:-)  In closing, if any of the readers of
this post are after a "fun" expierience, are not good drivers (I
require half the aids in GP2 & 3) then GP3 will most likely not
dissapoint you.

Cheers

OF COURSE GP3 IS AN UPDATE

DUH..

GP2 was an update to GP1..

GP3 is an update to GP2

Whadda you expect?!?! Starting from fresh, when there's 4 years work in the
code they had for GP2 - you must have been JOKING!

It's updated (from the comments around here!)

Weather
Graphics (hardware support - but little else from what I here)
Sound (varies from 'Same as GP2, to 'As close as it gets to the real thing)
FF
New season of cars (then again, the public domain has always done that!)

Place your bets for the turn around time for a 2000 car set for GP3!!

% Whadda you expect?!?! Starting from fresh, when there's 4 years work in the

Well eventually your code is stale and old.... then it's time to invest
in creating some new code (i.e., engines).  I wonder what the real F1
would be like if they were still using the same equipment as they did
when GP1/2 was released?

% Weather

Great addition

% Graphics (hardware support - but little else from what I here)

It took 4 years to do this?

% Sound (varies from 'Same as GP2, to 'As close as it gets to the real thing)

Yeh, I like all of the hype about the new improved sounds.  From the
pre-release info one would have thought they totally revamped the sound.

% FF

Wow.... again it took 4 years to code FF

% New season of cars (then again, the public domain has always done that!)

Obviously not. There is no way he spent 4 years doing this
"upgrade".

Then he and the gaem are a total joke IMHO. What is he the
Derek Smart of racing sims... Has to do it all himself?

And neither did doing it this way...

Wow.

Marvelous. This should make everyone much more confident.

No Michael, let's get this clear: it's been people like you and
others with a true devotion that have used more or less open
file formats to create add ons which enhanced the original
gameplay, as without a doubt others will with gp3. I've tried
to do my little share by creating GPLRank, based on an idea by
Don Scurlock.

The public domain ***es and moans at being ripped off for
their hard earned cash (or will do so within a week), so let's
see what *they* come up with in turn in order to improve gp3.
My guess is they won't come up with fixes that fix the flaws
that were already present in gp2 (and still are in gp3, looking
at a very close near-release beta or whatever you want to call
it).

I'm quite amazed at the fact I am taking to this discussion
like I do. I must have posted more articles on RAS over the
last week than I did over the last five to six years combined,
but I think that is at least in part due to the fact I feel
hurt (strange, isn't it?) by the way MP and Hasbro are trying
to rip us ("us" as in a community that is willing to pay their
wages)  off.

Regards,

Uwe

Well let's see what the man himself said then (from the Geoff Crammond
interview at
http://www.grandprixgames.com/grandprix3/english/interview.html)

Q. What have you been doing in the gap between GP2 and 3? Did you start
planning GP3 all that time ago, or did you take a break from games
altogether?
A. We all took a well-deserved break after GP2 for about 3 months. We've
been working on GP3 ever since.

And then further down:

Q. GP2 was released with a number of missing features, such as weather
effects and a network option, do you regret not developing updates or
patches for the game?
A. We've been keeping our heads down while working on GP3 - releasing a
lot of patches for GP2 wouldn't leave enough time to develop a new
full-blown product.

Q. Have you been aware of the support for your games on the Internet,
with numerous add-ons, cars designs and new tracks? Do you support them?
And will GP3 be more accessible to third party developers?
A. As I said, we have been concentrating on the job in hand - GP3.

So he hasn't only been working on it for 4 years, he's also using it as
an excuse for not ever releasing any patches for GP2 (some will say GP3
is just a GP2 patch though...).

Wow Greg we all know that naming somebody a "Derek Smart" is very low
indeed, but your quite close to the reality with GC.  He really needs to be
slapped by the reality the modern *** business.  GP3 is the best of the
worst! ;-)
