WRONG!

It's 1.3 inches lower--and that's quite more than my tolerance allows.  It
goes back to the store tomorrow.

Actually that is wrong! The last digit should be a 3 not a 4. See,
it's not so bad afterall :)

i buy a 3dfx card or a nvidia card?

Since I have not run F1RS in D3D mode, I only know about the 3dfx mode.
The only advantage of the Riva card would be that it is also a 2D card.
The 3dfx card is not, and needs a 2D card also. However, if you have
a 2D card and want the best performance possible, 3dfx is the only
choice. It does all the Riva does plus Glide.

I've tried the D3D version, it looks just the same as the 3DFX, but is
slower (do you need frame rates over 50?), but a pretty fast D3D card
gets you going. I have a pretty slow D3D card (Screamin' Verite 1000),
but the game is still playable...

What card did you try the D3D version on ?

There is no way the D3D version looks the same as the 3Dfx version,
unless maybe you ran the d3D version on a 3Dfx card.

Regards

Andrew

Just downloaded the English version demo (11x3mb files).
Game installed and runs OK, but I'm a bit disappointed with the acceleration
and braking. Even with 100% sensitivity, if I jump right on the accelerator
of brake, I don't seem to wheel spin, or lock up. The only time I hear
screeching of the tires is going around corners. In GP2, the art of applying
the right amount of brake into corners without locking up was a key element.
Given the positive response to this game, I wonder if it is something to do
with the demo, or something I have set-up wrong.
Interested to know if owners of the game do experience lock-ups and ability
to wheel spin at the start.

The demo has all the easy options set for driving. Its a "little" harder
in the full version.

I don't know if the demo has these options, but in the full version, you can
turn off anti-lock brakes and traction control.

Julian,
I have get F1RS and assure you that in final game lock-ups and wheel spin at
the start and corners  is more easy than in GP2 .
Gas pedal needed very attention !!!
