: I never am able to do flatout at Michigan. I can't go 234, 240, whatever
: Mario can do. I just understeer. Is it true you have to brake there?
I am going to assume that since you mention Mario we are talking about
ICR2 and not some other kart racing game with another Mario.
I will pass on a "basic" setup that will allow you to crack 239 at MIS.
However, it will not do this on full tanks. Take it out with about 20
gals, warm up the tires for a couple of laps and then see how hard you
can push it. From this point you maybe able to tweak this setup and get
better speed with full tanks. However, if you plan on using this for a
racing setup, don't abuse the tires early on. Otherwise you won't have
any left for when you need 'em.
One would assume that since MIS is a super speedway, low downforce is
the way to go. I have found that one needs some wing to keep the car
down in the turns. What you give up in straight away speed with the
drag can be more than made up in cornering speed. I like a good solid
setup for MIS, as one can easily get hung up by slower traffic and I
like to be able to pass in the corners aggressively (high, low, or even
a combo attack).
You want to take your run into turn 1 high (follow the "groove" marks
and maybe a little higher). Take the car as deep as you can before
"sliding" down to the white line. I find that you can actually take
this turn really late, just don't make any abrupt steering motions to
get down to the corner. When your car has full fuel load, you will
have to lift slightly to help get the car down the track.
You want to "slide" the car down towards the white line so that you are
close to it just before the apex. This way you can keep up pretty good
speed through the turn. After you have made the apex, slowly start
straightening up the car, coming up out of the turn up against the
outside wall. The trick is to try not to scrub off too much speed while
in the turn. If necessary "scrub" off the speed entering the turn.
Again with a full fuel load this may require slightly lifting on the
throttle.
Turn 3 is completely different that turn 1. Here you want to enter the
corner closer to the inside. I have found that I almost always
need to lift somewhat on the throttle for this turn (until the car is
almost empty of fuel). While still on the straight and approaching the
turn start edging the car down toward the inside groove. I like to be
about a half a car up from the white line entering the turn. As you
approach the apex start applying power. Don't floor it, or else you
will start to shoot up the track and will lose alot of speed. Sorta
"feather" the throttle and use the power to slide the rear out just a
little. All the while trying to hug the white line through the turn.
Okay, you put up with all of that, here is a starting setup for you to
play with:
Fuel: 40 gallons 1st Gear: 11.90
Steering Lock: 7 degrees 2nd Gear: 8.10
Stagger: +1.000 inches 3rd Gear: 6.10
4th Gear: 4.90
Front Wing: 3.35 5th Gear: 4.30
Rear Wing: 3.25 6th Gear: 4.20
Boost Level: 0
Front Anti-Roll: 6
Rear Anti-Roll: 4
Brake Bias: 5
TIRE COMPOUND PSI CAMBER SHOCK
Right Front Hard 33 -1.80 50%
Right Rear Medium 36 -1.30 100%
Left Rear Soft 36 +0.00 95%
Left Front Soft 34 -0.80 80%
Use 5th gear with full tanks until the rev light starts to flicker at
the end of the straights, then change up to 6th.
There are some other excellent setups (some looser, some faster) just
follow the links for Indycar Racing on my Race Links page at

Oh, one more thing. You have patched to the 1.02 level?
