> Never driven a Nascar title before today!
I've only driven N2002 online a dozen or so times so far but I love it. I
doubt I'll do much racing on road courses (find these Nascar tanks a real
battle and end up wishing for my Lotus instead :o), but the ovals are such
a change from GPL it's really refreshing*. I love the big fields, the
cooperative aspect of finding people to draft with... heck, I even like
pitting occasionally! And the thrill as you thread your way through a
hazey accident scene is superb... well, if you get it right :o)
Of course open races can be madness, but what's new? My first few races
were hard work while I was training myself not to panic in the pack or
when being overtaken. The usual rules apply... either get out of the way
well in advance or hold your line and learn to realise exactly what the
mirrors are telling you. Now, if only I could learn to read the mirrors
and drive in a straight line at the same time I might have a higher
ranking! ;o)
Nascar is a bit of a culture shock, but the racing can be every bit as
rewarding as GPL... it's just a different flavour of rewarding, with choc
chips, maple syrup, sprinkled with cajun seasoning, and washed down with a
Bud (well, you've got to occupy yourself *somehow* down those long
straights at 'Dega ;o)

*Actually I enjoy ovals in GPL, though it was always hard to attract
enough people to get a decent race. With N2002 and plenty of drivers it's
also nice to be in touch with other drivers for most of the race... unlike
GPL at Spa or the Ring where you often don't see anyone else for lap after
lap... well, if you drive like I do anyway ;o)
