Hi guys,
just picked up N2002 today.  Just thought I'd give you guys a "newbie alert"
if you ever see me online.  I'm registered at Sierra as steve_w05.  I'm not
exactly new to online racing, been online with GPL since the beginning, but
these Nascars are a whole new ball game to me.  Never driven a Nascar title
before today!!  I promise I'll practise a lot offline before I attempt
online.  I don't want to upset any of you guys by wrecking you
unintentially.

cheers
Steve Whitty

I must be racing too many Papy server pickups because I nearly burst out
laughing reading that, if *only* UNintentional wrecking was the main problem
;)

Actually, what is unintentional wrecking ? On the papy server
everything seems to be intentional wrecking, from a slight driver
error and honest mistake to driving backwards. The most common though
is first lap winners who go in too hot. Bad driving, certainly, but
not intentional wrecking.

There's a first for everything I guess :-), you'll do fine, you have
understood the basics of racing online with humans, knowing your
limitations, just remember, just because your good at racing the AI
doesn't mean you'll do well against humans, believe it or not, humans
act even more irrational than Papy's AI :-)

Looking forward to seeing you online

Beers and cheers

i disagree, i think secretlyey deep down these kids, and few elders who feel
like they are 12 again actually are intentionally wrecking, when they decide
to be 1 lap wonders....they simply look at their car as a missile, and
anything in front of them is the enemy.... they show no remorse, and never
accept blame when they get yelled at or punished for their actions....

To Me:
unintentional wrecking = driver error, honest mistake, over-aggression,
driving beyond ability

intentional wrecking = driving with the specific aim of causing a wreck or
crash, whether it be for revenge of an earlier incident (or even earlier
race), fishtailing the car in front of you on last lap for 1 extra position,
or any other act where the intent is to cause another driver to spin/crash.

Neither is particularly a good thing, however catagory 2 doesn't get solved
with the drivers learning to drive properly, it would take psychological
treatment to solve for many I fear.

> Never driven a Nascar title before today!

I've only driven N2002 online a dozen or so times so far but I love it. I
doubt I'll do much racing on road courses (find these Nascar tanks a real
battle and end up wishing for my Lotus instead :o), but the ovals are such
a change from GPL it's really refreshing*. I love the big fields, the
cooperative aspect of finding people to draft with... heck, I even like
pitting occasionally! And the thrill as you thread your way through a
hazey accident scene is superb... well, if you get it right :o)

Of course open races can be madness, but what's new? My first few races
were hard work while I was training myself not to panic in the pack or
when being overtaken. The usual rules apply... either get out of the way
well in advance or hold your line and learn to realise exactly what the
mirrors are telling you. Now, if only I could learn to read the mirrors
and drive in a straight line at the same time I might have a higher
ranking! ;o)

Nascar is a bit of a culture shock, but the racing can be every bit as
rewarding as GPL... it's just a different flavour of rewarding, with choc
chips, maple syrup, sprinkled with cajun seasoning, and washed down with a
Bud (well, you've got to occupy yourself *somehow* down those long
straights at 'Dega ;o)

Andrew McP

*Actually I enjoy ovals in GPL, though it was always hard to attract
enough people to get a decent race. With N2002 and plenty of drivers it's
also nice to be in touch with other drivers for most of the race... unlike
GPL at Spa or the Ring where you often don't see anyone else for lap after
lap... well, if you drive like I do anyway ;o)

Actually in 99% of the races I have been in it has not been
intentional wreckers that have caused problems, it is just the idiots
and people that should practice the track off-line first.
