If realism isn't its forte, then NFSPU is EA's bastard stepchild,
because it's FAR too realistic to qualify as a simple "arcade racer."
It's definitely not GPL, but, then again, I haven't heard ANYBODY ever
allege that ANY Porsche from ANY era handled even remotely like a 1967-
vintage GP car.
NFSPU easily ranks up there with Viper Racing and DTR in the physics
department, which places it at the GPL end of the spectrum. SCGT
should have done such a sweet job in the physics department -- if it
had, it might still be on my hard drive.
BTW, are you sure you're not confusing "difficult" with "realistic"?
NFSPU certainly lacks in the "difficulty" department to some extent,
but it does an EXCELLENT job of simulating a fast ride in a well-
suspended sports car on public roads -- not a bad accomplishment, even
if it's "not" GPL.
BTW, did you "educate yourself by buying the game" before or after you
asked, "Does this mean I was right that NFS:PU is just an update to the
horrid NFS III and the a-bit-better-than horrid NFS: HS?" If you asked
that question before you purchased the game, then I am sorry if my
comments here steered you towards purchasing a game that you find
unfulfilling. If you haven't done so already, make sure you work
through all the "Factory Driver" scenarios -- anything this game lacks
in the realism category is more than made up for by the immersiveness
of this portion, IMO. Actually, I've found NFSPU to be MORE immersive
(for me, mind you) than GPL. Not necessarily more enjoyable (that
would be a dead heat, I would say), but definitely more immersive.
Just my $0.02.
