SB Live IRQ Conflicts?

by MrAdamHn » Thu, 22 Apr 1999 04:00:00

If it's not one problem it's another.....

My SB Live card  has an IRQ conflict between SB Live and SB16 Emulation, they
are both assigned IRQ 5. SB16 Emulation lost the battle which means no sound
with Burnout Drag Racing. The sound card worked fine until I installed my new
Creative Banshee video card.

It won't let me change the IRQ for SB16 Emulation in windows and I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling the SB drivers, all without any luck.

Any advice?

Try moving your PCI cards around to different slots.  Certain PCI slots
are designed to use a specific IRQ and you may have two devices fighting
for the same IRQ.

I tried that and the problem is the card is conflicting with itself. My
computer is also finding an unknown PCI card and assigning it IRQ 11. I have no
idea what to do and Creative is not responding to my pleas for help. Anybody
want to buy a computer cheap :)

best thing to do is remove the card completely from the PCI slot, remove
everything in WIN98 about that card, and reinstall thewhole thing again
maybe trying another PCI slot (as mentioned b4). Good luck

You didn't say what kind of motherboard you was using so this might not
help. I had a FIC va-503+ super7 motherboard and could not get the SB live
to behave until I loaded a patch from FIC that helped straightened irq
conflicts in windows98.  After that, all the irq's fell into place and
everything was useable. Like I said, not sure on your hardware but I thought
I would add my 2 cents.

First uninstall your sb live completly, then restart your machine and go into
the bios. Cycle down to PNP/PC! configuration. Depending on your motherboard
there will be a setting something like, Resources controled by:most likley
yours will be set to auto. Change it to manual. go down to the problem
irq,it needs to be changed to legacy isa.
Save your setting and reboot.
Your SBlive will now look elsewhere for an irq,Once it is setup reboot
going back into the bios and change it back to pci/isa Pnp
Leave the resources controlled by manual.
Your mileage may vary.

If your motherboard supports it, reserve IRQ5 for ISA devices.  This will
still allow the SB16 emulation to use IRQ5.

Hmm, that unknown card your finding should be identified as the Soundblaster
Live.  Something sounds off here. Make sure you remove the unknown card from
device manager. Remove and/or uninstall the Creative folder and drivers.
Normally, it should assign irq 5 to your emulation, and 11 to the Live. If
you have a network card in your machine, that can cause conflicts for sure.
Check it and see what irq it uses, and see if you can possibly change it, or
change slots around.

SB Live IRQ Conflicts?

I have tried everything, gone into my bios and changed settings...all that did
was cause conflicts with my modem, etc.

SB Live and Emulation are both assigned IRQ 5, the unknown PCI card is assigned
IRQ 11, If I delete the unknown card, it is reinstalled when I reboot and I'm
back to square one.

I have a VP1541 Pent motherboard, a Viking 56k modem, SB Live Value and
Creative Banshee, My OS is Win95. Very Frustrating....

Wonder, what's your video card IRQ ?

Also, the only way of doing this :

remove everything related to the SB LIVE! (hardware and software)

remove the card itself from the mainboard.

start your PC in safe mode

go in control panel, device manager, then look for anything related
to the SB LIVE! including that unknown device remove them all (most of
the time there's duplication after install/uninstall

back in win95/98 normal mode once

scandisk

shut it down

reinstall the card on the pci slot

then reboot.

Let me know if you've found it this way

The unknown PCI card could be the USB on your motherboard and Win95
doesn't know anything about USB (unless you have OSR2 and the USB
patches).

SB Live IRQ Conflicts?

I have an AMD K62-300 on a DFI P5BV3+ (v2) mobo w/SB Live! Value and have
exactly the same problem.  I have done all the uninstalls and removals and
reinstalls etc and it always comes back.  Very Frustrating.  I discovered it
when I tried to upgrade from my original version of W95 to w98 and all went
fine until the final boot and I got the horrible roar caused by a sound card
IRQ conflict.  I had decided it was an AMD/motherboard problem, I'm sorry to
hear it isn't.
