My new sytem has a Viper V770 (old system had a Banshee) now I can't play
GPL with the graphics I've come to expect.

If I use one of the OpenGL beta patches I found at The Pits what can I
expect in the way of graphics and game play?

You can expect it to look better than on a voodoo3. I know, I have both TNT and
voodoo3 systems.Crank it up to 1024*768 or more and enjoy the view.

I bought the voodoo3 because of the mirror refresh problem with the TNT/OpenGL,
but I think there are newer TNT drivers that solve the mirror problem now.
However, my TNT machine has moved on to Windows 2000 and I don't use it as a
games machine except for testing.

You can expect it to suck. TnT2's can't keep up with the voodoo chipsets for
glide games. The opengl patch is a bit of a bodge up.

I bought CL's tnt2 ultra and found the display in gpl much worse than on my
voodoo2. Now I have a V3 2000pci and it blows the ultra away for gpl and
falcon4 etc. Not bad for 70 quid
sorry to be the bearer of bad news

PS don't believe anyone who tells you different, they must work for nvidia!

How can you say this. Have you seen what the racing line looks like using
openGL, you can barely see where it is. No set of drivers cures the mirror
flicker problem except the set that creative ship with the card (v2.04 i
think) and they are dog slow.

Perhaps you're an arcade racer who drives round in the chase view, I can't
think of anyone else who plays gpl properly who would agree with you.

Anyone feel free to jump in

I downloaded the patch and it's just not the same as with my Banshee. It
looks like one of my favorite sims will be getting put on the shelf.

When I bought my new system I didn't even think about the Viper card not
being compatible with GPL. I have the same problem with Burnout PCE, loved
that sim and it too will be getting shelved. Just can't bring myself to play
it in software mode. Thanks to everyone that helped.

I had the same problem: A TNT-2 ultra and terrible graphics in GPL. I bought
an old voodoo2 $60 and put it next to the TNT2. Works great!
