GPL - will it work for me?

by Neil Strotto » Fri, 28 Jan 2000 04:00:00

From reading the various posts in this NG, it seems that GPL is THE sim of
choice for most people.

I would like to give it a go but I'm wondering will I be able to play it
ok?  I have Matrox G400 max graphics card.  Will this work?  I did try the
GPL demo a while back when I had 2 Voodoo2 cards and was really disappointed
with the overall look and feel of it, but it could be that it was a really
early demo version.

I also have LWFF, PIII 500, 128Mb RAM.

Many thanks

Agreed, if you have the time to commit to it.

1) It won't work with the Matrox card.  2) The look and feel of the sim
hasn't changed dramatically from the demo.  However, Watkins Glen is not
the most visually impressive track, and graphics are a matter of
taste.  While not as shiny as Rally Championship or Need for Seed, they
seem to get the job done for most people, and the palette seems to fit the
historical period.  Some things are done really nicely, like the movements
of the driver, and the***pit motions.  Most tracks in the 60's were
quite sparse and visually dull - it's visually quite nice to motor around
the 15 mile Nurburgring, however.

If you want to take the plunge, you'll have to buy a cheap Voodoo
card.  The rest of the specs are fine.
