An Open Letter To Adam Petty

Nascar lost too many good men in the past year.  Adam Petty was so
young that it is even more sad than the loss of my favorite driver
Dale Earnhardt.  Sorry for your loss.

Yes.. it belongs here.

Yep, gotcha, Alan buddy. You're right. This could lead to trouble. Big
trouble. Trouble so goddamn big, you just wouldn't believe it. Glad you're
on top of things buddy. Last thing we want around here is trouble.
Especially this kind of trouble. You know, the kind of trouble you get when
you let people post any goddamn thing they feel like. Christ almighty,
that's so haphazard! We wouldn't any of that shit. No sir. As you have
rightly pointed out, that haphazard shit can lead to just one thing...
Trouble. Big trouble. Thanks for taking the time to protect us from trouble.
I hope it wasn't too much trouble for you to, you know, protect us from...
you know, trouble. Because that's exactly what something like this would
lead to. If left unchecked. Yep. Thanks again. We don't want no trouble.

That was a bit insensitive of you David.. I expect insensitive replies
from another David but not from you..

True, but on the other hand... isn't it a bit futile to post that letter
(nice gesture as it is) here? I'd be very surprised if anyone connected with
the Petty family would frequent RAS. Same thing with the "silent
tributes"... it's just us comforting eachother. I fail to see how the actual
berieved would get anything out of it (unless someone points it out to them
of course).

Hi Brandon,

I, for one, think you have every right to post any msg. you want to in this
forum (this ain't the UN Civil Rights Commission hearings, ferchrissake),
without fear of being flamed by opponents of free speech.  Non carborundum &
all that....

Perhaps it wasn't FOR the Petty's but for the writer.

dear Dan-
either you've lost someone very close and havn't come to terms, or
you've never lost someone close... or you have no one close. i really
don't understand why you would be so calous otherwise. i appriciate
you're writing to me directly. If this was an attempt at humor, then i
will say when you mature you will see the error of your way and deep
down have regrets.
i know i still do. in '64 when they couldn't spot eddie sachs' on the
track at indy i thought to myself 'i hope he's dead'... cause i didnt'
like him much (even tho i had never met the man, nor did i have any
reason to dislike the man).. i was young (16) thought i knew
everything and pretty much insensitive to anyone else.

thats's why i'm glad you wrote... it still bothers me that i had such
negative thoughts... and i would urge you to look deep inside yourself
and find why you feel this way -now- before you cause yourself to
regret something you've said or hurt someone with words.

hang in there daniel. care will come, and with it an appriciation for
others,
and their sensitivities....

if something OT such as this is going to be posted.. it should at least have
some relevance to most people in here.. for example, an open letter to senna
etc wouldn't be out of line..... but who the hell is adam petty? never heard
of him.. don't know (or care.. sorry, no disrespect... i'm talking
motorsport achievements) who he was... as such, i don't think it belongs
here.. different story if most of us were familiar with him

nope... i am slightly familiar with a few of the bigger names, but that's
about it.... this whole open letter business to me seems about as silly as
if we had an open letter to tarso marques
