Hopefully other publishers will follow suit.
I haven't had a problem with the Starforce games on my system, but I
have a separate PC for DVD burning, etc.  I recognize and dislike the
technical issues with Starforce, and thier business practices are
indefensible.

They will STILL be using copy protection just not Starforce.  You assume the
nextgen copy protections will be somehow be less intrusive than SF?  Why is
that?  As Ive always said, Starforce while a PITA is nothing compared to
what we will see in future copyright protection schemes.   Lets wait and see
what the replacement is before you get all e***d K.

Intrusive seems a bit strong, but I get the point.

Copy protection is fine by me, as long as it doesn't create <more>
problems for the end user, similat to what we have with SF and GTL

I recall a game for the C64 that displayed an image on the screen and
the "copy protection" was a colored piece of cellophane that you looked
thru to read a code and then entered into the computer.

Yes their have been many protection schemes.  Hardware dongles, a word on a
specific page in the manual, spinning secure wheels, etc, etc, etc.  This my
friend has always been my point for Starforce.  With very few exceptions
(pirates notwithstanding) SF works quickly and easily and the only
requirement is the original cd/dvd.  Barely noticeable let alone intrusive.
Of all the broken DVD drives Id bet a HUGE percentage (99%+) were caused by
the user/pirate trying to defeat the copy protection not the actual copy
protection scheme, despite the whining, crying, screaming, ***ing and
moaning so prevalent today.

Whats going to happen now is unknown but Ill hazard a guess that copy
protection will become more intrusive than SF, not less.  What will all the
anti SF activist crowd say then?  Will they apologize for making the
situation worse?  Ill bet they will start yet another moonbat based activist
crusade of smear and lies based on nothing other than fear and insecurity
instead of fact and common sense.

The second you plug that RJ45/11 (nowadays GPRS/Edge etc) jack into your PC
youre fundamentally insecure, SF, MS-ring0, DblClck or not.   Its comical
listening to the simpletons trying to convince themselves how insecure SF
and MS makes them all the while ignoring the true insecure realities of
computers and the internet v1.0 altogether.  These are the same people that
wouldnt blink and eyelash d/ling then using one of the many tools CREATED BY
PIRATES to get around the copy protection.  Does that make any sense at all?

See here is where I disagree. I must be an exceptional person as my DVD
drive shat itself shortly after installing (less than a month) GTL. I
work in a "government" capacity, if you catch my drift, and I am no
pirate. Coincidence or something more? Sure it was a POS Dell OEM
DVD-ROM drive that was a whole 11 months old, but I have my doubts that
the install of GTL&SF and my drive crapping out were unrelated.

The scary world out there IS an insecure place, but in the confines of
my home, I shouldn't have to be worried that installing and/or running
a piece of entertainment software will cause physical damage to
equipment that worked fine prior.

The current quality control on CD/DVD-Writers is utterly abysmal.  Every
drive I've owned in the last 3-4 years has died just outside the one year
warranty period except for one which died when it was a month old and had to
be sent away for repair - 6 weeks later I received a new one.

My latest NEC DVD burner is about 14 months old and no longer reads or
writes CDs. (DVDs are ok)

I think my next one will be a Plextor, though at 3x the price it had better
be good.

Damn I hate Chinese electronics.

The weirdest of all time was Lotus Jazz for the Macintosh back in the mid
80's.

They had a Laser Hole burned into the disk, and the software would not run
if that hole was not present.

You had to run it using the original discs.  No user backups were permitted.

They charged a fee for replacements.

Oooh Fredrickson.  You need help dude, seriously.  Youre one deranged mofo

Lets see now.

Larry Bakesmith is your real name and as far as I can tell youve used these
aliases...

Fredickson
Reggie_White
Flightlessvacuum
Rex_Roland
and now (using easynews) Enos Nivek

Have you ever offered anything of any substance other than insanity in your
life?  Oh yea I forgot, you NEED A LIFE first....

I don't know what's more crazy...

The many sides of Fred Fredrickson, or the fact that Mitch keeps track of
them all.

Yea it's pretty sad I have to bother.  I like to keep my killfile up to
date, nothing "crazy" about that.

If you like to read his one sentence 3rd grade bullshit good for you.
Because I don't you call me crazy?>   Hmmm.  Larry's bullshit is deeper than
usual today.

On this point I fully agree Darus.

BUT....

Do you know without a doubt that SF caused your issue?

From my experiences in life talk is very very cheap all the while facts,
evidence and proof get hidden behind *talk*.

BTW Im hearing a rumor that Ubi is going to use SecureRom7 which as far as
Im concerned is as bad if not worse than SF.
