The first turn at the Adelaide track (used by supercars the past couple of
years and the formula one from '85 to '95) is a medium speed chicane, which
goes left then right, and is immediately followed by a long left hand turn.
Supercars and F1 start at the same point.
Are you referring to the GPL tracks? I've only tried the F1 track, but that
is pretty accurate.

Maybe you're confusing Melbourne and Adelaide...
Melbourne (Albert Park): The first turn is to the right.
Adelaide: First turn is to the left, both for the
current V8 supercar races and the F1 guys (who last
raced there in '95). The start place is the same,
as is the first few corners. The V8 guys take a bit
of a shortcut halfway around the track, but rejoin
the F1 track not long after.
