Forgive me brothers for I have sinned, I have not played a racing sim for
sometime and not had time to read this newsgroup recently so I'm at a bit of
a loss as to whats hot and whats not, my main interest right now is an F1
sim, I was waiting for GP3 but whats EA's F1 2000 like? is it the same
quality as their other sports line-up? is it a sim or a game? are there any
community web-sites that anyone can recommend for it? Screenshots look good
but then we all know not to trust the blurb and a few screenshots on a
web-site :-) opinions please

Hmm I used to love the NFS titles years back, is it that good? been away so
long I had'nt even realised they were doing another NFS game :-) What about
EA's F1 2000 game? is it a game or sim, graphics look superb in the card I
got in the post from a mailorder software co. Someone also mentioned
somewhere that at a recent event at Daytona they were handing out CD's with
a demo of N3 and NL with the Daytona track in it, has anyone posted it on
the net if it exists?

It is VERY good, much like the first NFS, in that you race open roads,
not circuits. 50-80 models of lots of Porsches from 1950-present.
Nice physics, and the most visually stunning racer ever..

$29.95 at electronics boutique.

I REALLY like it. There are others here who don't, because it
is not as realistic as GPL. Also, it has a high system requirement,
so plan to turn down a few details.

It's around here someplace.. ;)

Coming from you thats quite some recommendation!

state of the art system I admit (short of readies to make the upgrade :-( )
how would this run F1 2000 say 800x600? I don't really want to drop to
640x480 and not being able to run it at 1024x768 is not such a big deal to
me as long as I can have all the cars on the track with a bit of detail, I
remeber GP2 never ran any good on my system which at the time was state of
the art unless I tweaked the graphics :-)

Whoops I did'nt realise you guys paid for it, or at least the digging I have
done so far has seen posts and links to buy the CD?!?! from my second hand
info I was under the impression it was given away free. I have found
'certain' other links though :-) Would you say it was wrong for a UK Nascar
fan to download them as he has no way of getting to Daytona to grab his
copy? :-)

You should be able to run it at about 50% detail at 800x600 with
a reduced grid of say, 15 cars. It will be slightly choppy at the start
and after that it should be smooth sailing. Also, the mirrors are a
BIG hit on this sim. You can simply press a key at any time to
toggle them, or press a rear-view key to avoid the framerate hit.
So-so track realism, and the physics are somewhere between SCGT
and Viper Racing, I would say. Great voice comms from your pit, etc.
And a lot of fun.

I haven't seen it, but others say it has been posted on some sites
and in the warez newsgroups. Look around, or maybe someone
will send you an email..  ;)

Have fun.

(did I mention that you should buy NFS: Porsche?)

Some don't like it because they don't like it. Period!  For me it has
nothing to do with it not being like GPL.  I dislike the graphics, the
sound, the physics, the FF, the AI, and the track modeling.  If they fix
all of these things, well, it would be a different product all together.

That's my opinion, and since some seem to think that it is great fun,
buy it only if you have the chance to take it back for a refund.  For me
it was a GREAT disappointment.  I had games with better sound on my
Timex/Sinclair Spectrum thingie (even better AI come to think of it).
