A Patch for the CMR 3 demo will be released this Wednesday following
criticisim of the demo, especially with the steering! (as all Momo owners
would know).
Let's hope this makes the demo driveable.
IMHO, they've shot themselves in the foot a bit considering that the final
version is due for release in only 2 weeks. This is because of how they've
focused their resources on getting the demo out:
Consider that the demo is advertised as being 95% finsihed. What they've
focused on is the graphics related small details like getting the backfires
right and glowing brake discs, etc. However, they didn't bother in checking
that the steering physics are up to scratch - one of the most fundemental
aspects of actually driving the game. The didn't even do the basic checks
that the game will work with some of the most popular wheels out there.
Compare their focus to that of LFS - where the graphics are reasonable but
nothing special, however the focus of the betas has been to get the driving
and realism right, and to ensure that the input devices work properly.
This says something about how arcade focused CMR 3 is compared with LFS.
Having said this, let me take off my "sim enthusisast" hat for a moment and
put on my business (sale and marketing) hat. I must accept that at the end
of the day 95% of potential CMR 3 customers have never heard of R.A.S or
even Sim Racing sites. They'll buy the product based on what it looks like,
and reviews from games magazines that focus on the graphics and sounds and
don't have a clue how a real rally car handles. From this perspective, maybe
the publishers know what they're doing focusing on the stuff that sells.
