Please help!!

Just bought the wheel, and there's an consistant issue...
the wheel cuts out (and the car straightens out and hits the wall on the
right),
almost like as if i had a keyboard and when i let go of the button that
makes the
car turn left, the car straightens out.

happens almost at a constant interval.

Is this buggy hardware or should i reconsider this wheel???

It is a "feature" of using the DOS exe with a windows digital
device. N2/NR1999 is screwed up in that respect.

Sorry, but NONE of the new digital wheel's are compatible with Nascar
Racing, and unless Papy decides to patch the joystick drivers it uses,
they never will be.

And this is a damned shame :(

Sorry Larry but your wrong,

My MS FF wheel comes with a profile for Nascar 2 which I use in NR99. Works
great!

Ummm... no Doug, you are wrong. Although NR1999 is based on the same game
engine as N2, they are two completely different games. N2 is a dos-only game
that does not accept digital controllers (AKA FF wheels). NR1999 is both a
windows and dos game, the windows version has a DirectX option for digital
controllers and the dos version does not (just like in N2). We have tried
everything possible to get FF wheels to work in N2 for the past 5 months,
but they just don't. (unless you are that 0.01% that "claim" to have gotten
it to work)

I managed to get my logitech (usb) to calibrate, but it still gives faulty
data while playing, which seems to happen alot coming out of turns, throwing
you into the wall.  No matter how fast or slow I recalibrate, it always
happens during racing.

Hey Gary

Larry's original post said "Nascar Racing" not N1 or N2 or NR99. I am well
aware of the issues with DOS and Nascar Racing. My NR99 is setup to run
either the Rendition (V2200 Herc Thriller) or the 3DFX version. As you
probably know, the Rendition version executes Nr1999r.bat from a PIF file
which loads into DOS and uses the generic controller input not the DirectX.
My MS FF wheel does cal in this DOS version. All 8 buttons, the wheel and
pedals map correctly to their respective functions. Running the game in this
way is still running DOS under windows which can be done with N2 also. My MS
FF wheel is plugged into a 2 year old Sound Blaster 16's game port. The
wheel didn't work in this way until I enabled "Poll with interrupts" in the
game controller setup. If you exit windows completely and reboot to DOS then
the MS FF doesn't work - it needs info from the "Active Profile" handed off
from windows to DOS to do the job.

Prior to NR99 I ran N2 for about a year with a Sierra Screamin 3D (Rendition
1000). This was also run in DOS under windows using the Sierra supplied DMA
executable for the V1000. Although I didn't have the MS FF at that time.

Larry's post was a little too generic and didn't state the version of NR or
whether he was running in DOS under windows, windows or just DOS.

I would be interested in which digital wheels you tested and what you mean
by they don't work. Are they dead, do they jump, jitter, not cal correctly,
or what? Are you trying to run these in DOS only?

Your comment about the 0.01% would mean that you have tested at least 10,000
wheels - I doubt if this is correct!

In other words, like we said, it don't work :)

I will clarify then :)

Digital Controllers, with the exception of the 1 out of 100,000 that are
lucky enough to get a calibration, do NOT work with any DOS .EXE form of
Nascar Racing, whether it be N2 or N1999.  If it's DOS, it don't work.

I do not know about Nascar 1, and I don't think too many care.

The _Windows_ version of N1999 _will_ work because it has a joystick
driver option based on DirectX (DirectInput).

It is not just because N2 is DOS based that these controllers don't
work.  It is also because the Joystick drivers in this game is highly
tuned for on-line racing and certain considerations had to be taken to
combat latency problems.
