Attaching the T1????

by Mike Heinl » Tue, 27 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I own a T1 and I try to attach it to my desk like Thrustmaster
suggests (by using those stupid suction cups) and it won't
stay on.  I was thinking of how to secure it by a bolt or by
building something, but I don't  know what could hold with
that plastic case it has.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyoe have any suggestions or has tried to make
anything???  Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank You

As a matter of fact I also had the same problem. I built my own desk
and finished it with formica. As it turns out, the suction cups wont
stick to it. So I wandered through my local monster home building
supply store and happened upon some do it yourself shelf building
stuff. The shelves were finished particle board 12"x36"x3/4". I bought
one of these for $2 or $3 and attached the wheel to it with the "super"
velcro supplied with the T1. Now I just lock the board down to my desk
with 2 C-clamps and I'm off to the races.

Hope this helps,
Chris

You might want to try a clamp.

The Master Mechanic quick release mini-bar clamp is good on the strength
side, easy to use, quick to get on and off.  The cost isn't cheap, but
neither is a T-1 to begin with.  The stability is great.  The way I've
got my M-1 (joystick) rigged it extends between the legs so I can't scoot
the chair forward.  Off course if you're in ICR or F1GP that's fine as
you're supposed to be in a somewhat reclined position.

A simpler thing to do is put a few drops of water on the suction
cups before ataching the T1 to your table.  If it still dosen't
stick, put down some contact paper on your desk first.

I mounted the T1 to a piece of wood, which is slightly wider than the
T1, using the velcro strips. Then mount the whole unit to the table
using 2 c-clamps. This ends up being very secure and easily removable.

I have attached my T1 to a piece of plexiglass that covers my desktop.
This has worked very well.
