the weirdest GPL bug EVER !!!

Here I am, after deleting my Ferrari .wav sound to reinstall the original
one (thanks again Jan).

GPL lauches perfectly...BUT he will only let me go in multiplayer mode,
although i am not connected, and I can only host a race, except of course I
can't.

I can click on the green flag in all the other modes (training, single race,
world championship) but nothing happens, the game doesn't lock, it just
stays there, if I go to multiplayer then I have access to the next menu but
when i click on host and then on the green flag, just the same, I can click
on the red to go back to the desktop but no way to get in the game, i have
changed my car just in case he saw that the ferrari wav wasn't there but
even with a Lotus it won't start.

I guess there must be something wrong with an .ini file somewhere not
allowing me to start the game but I can't see where.

I have the JSJ utility to use the shifter but if I start the 'old' GPL.EXE
unpatched it will still do the same.

Thanks for your help

That's a tell-tale sympton of a gpl.exe patched with Nigel Pattinson(sp?)
"Carsound".  You *need* to have 7 .wav files in the "sound" folder if
you use that patch.

You should extract the "ferrari.wav" from the "sound.dat" file and
rename it "fer.wav".

Richard.

Hi!

Another possible way: Copy the original gpl.exe from your cd into your
gpl-folder, overwriting the existig one and then run the 1.2.0.1-patch over
it. Should do the job.

Thanks for the help everybody but I still have my little problem.

I have downloaded about 10 sounds for the ferrari and I still like the
original better, I can run the game now (it was the missing fer.wav file)
but can anybody mail me the original sound ?
Or better tell me here that he'll do it, otherwise I'll end up having 26
mails with a 200 Ko attachment...

thanks again

Go to The Pits, Stock Car Editors page
http://www.theuspits.com/fbody/nascar/index.html and get Tim Medcalf's
dooDAT V1.3. It will allow you to extract the original sounds from the
sound.dat in GPL (I would copy the sound.dat off the CD and perform this in
a temp folder). Once you extract the ferrari.wav file, rename it fer.wav and
move it to your Sound folder in GPL.

Go here:

http://nosthevamp.tripod.com/start.htm

Scroll down to "Sounds", download the original GPL Ferrari sound, done.

That's not to say that learning to hack about with the dat files isn't
useful, but that's the easiest way to get the original Ferrari wav with
Carsound.

Yes, dooDat will extract any Papy dat file.
