N2 newbie question: apron passing?

by Dave Ma » Sun, 06 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Not sure if this is an N2 or an actual NASCAR rules question, so
please pardon my ignorance.  This is probably a *wickedly newbie*
question, since I've been much more of an F1 fan to date, but N2 with
3Dfx might change my mind... :)

Are there any rules governing if or when you can pass below the white
line (besides overriding rules, like no passing under caution)?  I've
been racing at Daytona for the first time, thanks to Alex's NASCAR Pit

and noticed that you can really make up a lot of positions when the
green flag comes out, especially at the start, if you stay *way* low
and pass on the apron.  It just seems too easy, and none of the AI
cars take a line that low.

TIA,
Dave

On a start or restart, you can't pass on the inside before the start/finish
line- I don't think the game penalizes you for it, though.....

Well, ok, but can you be more specific?  "before the start/finish"
meaning what, exactly?  Another reply said that you can't pass under
the white line, until you cross the start/finish line, on the lap when
the green flag waves (i.e., at initial start of race or on a restart).
Is this what you mean?

Yep, I am aware of that.  BTW, Daytona doesn't seem to display things
like the 3Dfx asphalt feature that the other tracks, including
Talledega, can show.  Don't know how the 3Dfx patch (or the equivalent
with N2 50th Anniv. edition, which is what I bought) works with track
graphics (e.g., did each track's graphics specifically need to be
altered for 3Dfx support), but I can't get the same quality of
graphics options displayed at Daytona, even with all the graphics
options turned on.  Am I overlooking something?

Thanks,

Officially, you can't pass to the inside before the start/finish.

P.S. you aren't racing at Daytona either...it's Talladega with different
graphics....

----No, you aren't overlooking anything. The Daytona...thingy...is just a
hack.
