Don`t bother,I just spent lots of time downloading carset, editors, new
tracks,to see what Gp2 was like(after playing F1RS for 5 months)and it is a
big disapointment.not in the same league as F1rs at all.
Better wait for Gp3,untill then I will keep playing F1rs,its awesome.

The graphics may not be as flashy, and there are no weather options,
but in all other respects, I think GP2 wins hands down.

BTW - I've downloaded the 98 carset for GP2 and the cars seem trickier
to drive, more prone to spin. Is this just my imagination or is it
actually the case?

Constructive criticsm please.......
Why was it a big disappointment?
Why is it not in the same league?

Agreed....f1rs is awesome.
But IMHO, GP2 is also *awesome* in it's own way.

Sure it doesn't have 3D card support (but it was produced *before* 3D
cards made a big impact?)

It's menus are better than f1rs (faster and in a more logical and
user friendly layout?).

I think the driving models of *both* are very good, maybe even the
best until GPL came along (I know GPL simulates a different era!) and
are pretty close, but GP2 *just* edges it for me, no real reason for
this except it *feels* better to drive?

Sure GP2 doesn't have weather, but the sound *is* better (IMO?) even
though you cannot hear the other cars.

Some people say the tracks are more accurate in f1rs, others say they
are more accurate in GP2? I think they are both accurate enough for
me.

F1RS has ghost laps which are fantastic, but GP2 has hotlaps which
can be saved (in practice sessions) which is also cool.

FIRS has better (although not perfect?) multiplayer options, but GP2
has better/more control configuration options (and the option for a
clutch).

I think if any simulation fan wants the best F1 Sim, they should
ultimately have *both* as they each have good and bad points. I too
am eagerly awaiting GP3.....

I have played both and must say I prefer GP2 as the more 'playable' game,
but the
graphics are far superior on F1RS.   If GP3 ever actually makes the
shopfloor and has
the graphical content of F1RS it would be a hell of a game surely.

The driveability of F1rs is very difficult and takes some mastering I am
sure, I have not
mastered it yet but will keep on persevering.

They are both very good games in their own right.

Another point to you. If you are like me, whose main computer is a notebook,
even with a very fast one like mine (AMD K6-233MMX), don't even think about
F1RS. The D3D version is so slow that you can't use. But GP2 is lighting
fast, never over 80% of CPU usage.

For the track themselves, thanks to Paul Hoad's track editor, we can now
have any track from any year. With the proper carset (Pieter's of course),
you can have very different games. We now have a very good Cart 98 carset,
and most of the tracks are appearing, so, in a very short time, it will be
an interesting CART simulator also.

Well I have a K6 200(clocked to 225) and drove f1rs in D3d for a
while, until I bought a 3DFx card, and it ran quite well on my
system, (Midi tower based system with 64Mb SDRam, *not* a laptop?)

Whereas, GP2 runs fine also on my system, but I probably average
around the 90% mark with occasional spikes around and just over 100%,
*not* always below 80%, but hey, who wants to split hairs?

And I would be *very* surprised if your system *never* went over 80%
in gp2, in svga, with all detail on, at 25fps, at monaco? (also this
is a whole other area that has been discussed *many* times before?)

Though it obviously depends on how each system is set-up?

You can't put a 3DFX on a notebook. And, for CPU usage, as most people do,
turn off sky textures. Of course, Monaco and the new Brazil98 gets over it
sometimes.

Nevertheless, notebook users do not have, if I am not wrong, any solution to
a good 3D video board. The new racing games, all uses Windows 95 as its
platform. In it, if you don't have a 3D video card (Redition, 3DFX,
PowerVR,...) you will not get the felling on the game.

GP2 definitly.  I downloaded the 98 carsets, and they look great, and
it runs great on my 333 PII.
