been running with NO braking help pretty good but trying to brake
correctly and down-shift at the same time is very difficult.
Question:
Are any of the best ICR2 drivers using auto-shifting?

I wouldn't consider myself one of the best, but I also ran auto-shift at
first and then changed to manual. It does make quite a difference, you
SEEM to slow down more quickly (perhaps engine braking is implemented?),
but you can definitely accelerate more quickly. Often ICR2 won't
downshift through turns when really one or even two gears lower would
give a better "kick" out of the corner. You can lose a lot of time
there.
Cheers!

Highly unlikely. Shifting for me is by instinct, part of learning the
coarse. In the sim, you don't even have to worry about heel-2-toeing, just
listen to the revs and fick usually as quickly as your fingers can hit the
key when you brake (on most road courses except Elkhart, I've blow many
engines there.) Auto Shifting often leaves you in the wrong gear, and
makes you look at the speedometer to find out how fast you're going. With
manual, you just associate a piticular engine pitch and gear, and you know
you're at your speed. Since the first week I ever drove a racing sim, I've
never gone back to autoshifting.

I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!?
: I too have this problem on my T1. My old analouge joystick was fine for
: manual braking, but the action on a T1 is horrible to say the least.
: Are there any wheels available with F1 style paddles on the wheels as
: this would be ideal?
: My time using autoshifting are between 4-7 seconds down on the IVGA
: records on road courses.
I run 1-2 seconds behind the top ivga times with auto shifting (and digital
gas and brake - i have a wheel with 2 buttons but no pedals).

btw, I'm not conciously following you, I didn't even know you wrote that!
I have a bad habit of not checking up on the author of newgroups articles.
