I have just seen that the above patch is available from the MS CART site.

I don't think it is any different to the one that was available from the
Apex earlier this week, since it appears to be the same size.

Actually there's about a 6K difference.  Not much, but enough (hopefully)
for some tweaking and bug fixes.

Actually, there is a *big* difference between the beta patch and the final
release.

In the final release patch, the grip levels were reduced for the
Intermediate and Professional skill levels. This makes a huge difference in
the handling (bettter!) and prevents the ridiculous fast laps, like 250+ mph
at Michigan. It also makes the human speeds *much* closer to the AI speeds.
Time to toss out your Hall of Fame file since you'll never reach those old
speeds again.

It's not perfect, but a big step in the right direction. See my web site for

This latest version has a drastic difference in grip levels. If you download
it please go to The APEX and fill out a new feedback form which has some
additional questions. It is very important that you do so because I have a
feeling this may be the last patch. I'm not an official of MS so I could be
wrong.

I agree.  Now, I could not put the pedal to the metal whenever I exit a
turn.  That would cause me to spin.  Since I use MS Sidewinder 3D Pro, I use
to push the throttle to the top.

That's the "sour taste" I keep getting when I hear these comments from
Microsoft/TRI.  They said the same thing about the "gold release" and
the "official release".  They were identical.  At least this time they
are different.  So this is a step in the right direction... <G>
