I already have the original Dirt Track Racing and was wondering how DTR2 is
different, if it is different enough to merit buying.

Thx

Dirt Track Racing 2 vs 1

Given the price of Ratbag games ($19.99 when first released) I'd say it is
for its offline career mode. Online play is pretty much the same.

Here is a quick list of improvements over DTR1

New chassis style Concept mod (Basically a DIRT mod from the east coast)
Replays
Better graphics
In D3D it will actually hold your display settings now.
Better engine sounds
Flying mud and tear offs

The big downfall is that DTR1 tracks don't just drop in. They need to be
converted and depending on how the original track was modeled it may not be
possible at all. For some reason the polys that the original tracks use for
collision detection with the fence will cause a lock up in DTR2 if an AI car
hits it, and weird stuff if you hit it. These tracks need to be DE2 edited
to pull these polys away from the track. However if these polys are
"attached" to the front edge of the track wall you are pretty much screwed.
The downfall to this fix is the fence is only there for looks. You will be
able to go right thru it. If the track creator knows what he is doing (keeps
the track wall perpendicular to the track surface) its not really a problem,
but very few seem to do that. On tracks with the banking increased the wall
will act like a ramp if the wall is left alone. When the wall is modified
you won't get over it except for the wildest of wrecks.

Let me know if you decide to buy DTR 2.  I will make you a deal on my loaded
once CD and manual.
