Talladega - Drafting

A question for the more serious racers:

During a race is it considered more effective while coming up thru the
field . to stick with a drafting partner even if ya hafta get outta
the gas here and there to keep from killing him. Has anyone noticed if
you try this if ya can catch up to the lead pack faster than trying to
hot dog it and run all alone. Or is the simulator not that technical.

I'm getting slaughtered on the restarts after cautions and usually
don't have the laps left to get back up there. I'm tired of running
10th.   <G>

                                                Thanks.....
                                                  Andy

Have you tried bump-drafting?  I find that my chances of catching the pack
are highest if I employ this technique.  All I do is give the car in front of
me a nice shove down the back stretch and sometimes right before the
tri-oval.  You can get in trouble, and I wouldn't recomend it if you have the
damage turned on.

It does include drafting in the simulation. I don't use it that much,
but if I draft for a couple seconds coming up behind someone, it seems
much easier to pass them. The other benefit of drafting is fuel
savings - so the strategy you describe may work well in a long race
with multiple pit-stops, but probably not that well over short numbers
of laps.

Matt,
Ehhhh.... thanks for the tip but I usually run with damage ON
hehehe.....bad enough your glued to a desk running it without
cheating even more with the damage off right? I mean where is the
risk?

This is because the drag is divided over the 2 cars rather than one car
so you both get a bit of an advantage. You can see this in F1GP too as
anyone who's played linked will know. Another advantage is that is
following a computer car very closely you get what the computer had
deemed an ideal racing line, otherwise you still loose bit here and there.
