Help i cant run any applications, i get the error 'beta direct draw expired'
even ater reinstalling DX. I didnt realise id got a beta version of DX
anyway.
   How do i fix this? any ideas?

Its ok i fixed by using http://www.directxbuster.de/index_e.html and going
back to 8.0a

Why don't you go to the official DX 8.1?  Best to not install beta software
on your working machine, only on a test machie to avoaid issues in the
future.  Always best to use the official d/l from www.microsoft.com/directx
