Direct Draw error message

N4 is*** at opening splash screen.  I have a box showing on the
task bar that says 'Microsoft Direct Draw', and N4 will not proceed to
load.

When I start GPL I get a message "Beta Direct Draw expired.  Please
update".  GPL does then load okay.

Only recent changes to system was when I tried updating to IE 6, but
then had to go back to IE 5.

Anyone have any clues as to what might be going on, and possible fix?

Well, Bob- if you're using DirectX 8.1 it's not good news- you have to
remove DX 8.1 somehow and go back to 8.0a. At least that was what I had to
do. I guess there is a DirectX removal tool somewhere(any know where?), but
I was due to format anyhow- so it worked out good for me =)

It's not that drastic... The beta version you have has just expired you can
fix it by setting your system date back a month or two untill you get the
latest beta. I think you can get the latest DX8.1 here:

Yep Scott, you're right, was using DirectX 8.1.  Was able to remove it using
this tool: http://www.racesimcentral.net/;  Re-installed 8.0a, and all
is okay now.
