My new news-server (at work) seems to miss a large number of posts on
various newsgroups.

Is there a good, free, reliable newsgroup server on the net somewhere?

I use www.remarq.com it works quite well showing the topics that
have changed most recently at the top and having an archive of
several months.

nothing?

Uh?  I don't understand your question?  Remarq is a free web
based Usenet server.  Thats what Joe asked for.

You pay via your ISP.  I think that's what Joe meant.  For instance, try
connecting to my isp's news server (news.quik.com), odds are you can't
connect to it.  I have the same problem.  At work I see it all, but at home
I miss lots of post, and if I try to connect to my work's new server
news.bctel.net, it won't connect.

Try this news-server:
n059.harderwijk.telekabel.euronet.nl

It's a little slow downloading messages, but it's carrying about 15000 posts
on this new group if you care to go back that far.

Yes that is what I meant, I was wondering if there was a free server
(for my news reader, not through the web like deja).

Yeah, but do you guys get charged extra by your ISP for subscribing to
various NG's? I didn't think this was the case.

No, but there ARE fee based newsgroup servers out there.  He's looking
for a FREE PUBLIC news server.  Your ISP's news server is NOT considered
public.
BTW, I'd recommend AGAINST using dejanews as your sole news server.
They're a few hours behind and the interface is hideous.  But noone can beat
'em for getting to old info!!!!

I'm extremely please with the one provided by my ISP:
(netnews.worldnet.att.net)

None are fee-based.  Just point your newsreader at the one you prefer.

Try this site. It allows you to search for the group you want, not too
bad. I have Agent set up for 3 different servers for 3 different
groups, since I can't get 1 server that will do the lot.

As far as I know ISP's don't charge you extra for subscribing to ng's (at
least that's the case over here in the UK). However, not many carry all the
ng's I access so I pay a fee of about 6 per month to to another company
that allows me to get access to whatever ng's I require. Deja.com also used
to offer this service so that you could access their ng's via your
newsreader instead of via the web site but they recently did away with that
service.
