** First Rally Championship Patch Released **

by Kenneth Verbur » Fri, 26 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Danny Hartely just sent me the first patch for Rally Championship, which
should take care of some of the most important problems people reported.
What does it fix?

- problem running on 8Mb voodoo card fixed
- workaround for 32bpp video playback
- workaround for voodoo3 drivers v1.03.04
(use v3driverfix=1 in the var\ral.cfg text file)
- bug fixes in network code

What does it not fix (yet)?

- 3 axis and USB controllers need investigating
- secret cars!
- increase stability of network play

It's 470kb to download. Just put the ral.exe where your old ral.exe is and
you have updated your game.

Oh, and I'd like to add that we're the first site to have the patch up :)
Sorry, just had to say it...Won't do it again.

You can download it from http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Enjoy!

What kind of network mode does RC support? I can't seem to find
anything on this in the user manual. Is it head-to-head one on one
racing? Is there a chatroom or matchup service somewhere? I'd like to
try it.

What about the "come to a complete, dead stop, when hitting ANYTHING"
problem, or the massive slowdown when going into the grass!!!!

And.... How about the sideways sliding issues.....

To me these are the most import issues that need addressing, not video
playback issues, and multi-player/network issues...

The patch does indeed fix the voodoo3 rendering problems, but in doing so it
takes out all the 3d pictures in the menus (helmets, cars, the key etc.)
which is really annoying when you're choosing a car.
If you leave out the new line in your ral.cfg, rendering isn't fixed. If you
put it in, you loose the menu pictures!

Hope there will be a patch for the patch soon!

Mike.

If it is anything like the past titles, there will be about 20 patches
before we are done.

Marc.

Any car physics patch in sight ?

- the car brake too short
- the car is too light ( weight )

Ok, so if RC is the only game that gives me any kind of problems with my
V3, I should blame 3Dfx for their poor drivers ..................?

Beers and cheers

The weight problem of the car is annoying me more and more. Yesterday
I had a perfect rally (3rd position the first ten minutes, I'm
improving :) then in a corner I barely touched the hill and
yeee-haaaa, the duuuukes of Hazzard!

That is something missing from the physics, but not the most important
thing to me.

This only happens on certain grass textures. In some areas cutting
over the grass works very well. I think in some places it's supposed
to be weeds or something, but it's not shown well graphically.

The sideways sliding implementation is very realistic.

Good. Bugs aren't important, but a company's reponse to them is. If
you're interested here's an editorial I wrote on this subject:
