God this game is good!

Very under estimated IMO..

The mix of differnet classes is a brilliant idea..

Always something going on especially on the longer races..

I have now opened up the "extreme" level and started a new career.

Minimum race distance is 25 laps.. Fuel meter has appeared and plays a part
in the race by forcing pitstops..

The AI agression triangles seemed to play a much better role in longer races
too, I had several "mad" red triangles pass me having their own race!! also
seen cars swerving all over the place when in "red" mode

The only critism I do have is first race I lapped all but 2 of my class at
extreme level.... I am sure some tweaking will bring them back closer to me,
or maybe some of the higher classes will be more demanding later on..
Certainly was to easy at Pro level right through the career

Also the challenge mode is way to easy.. I seem to win every race.. and
while some of the challenges are novel they don't give you a race.

The overall package and software engine is very good, see previous review on
this newsgroup...

I do believe this has the potential to be an exceptional racer, it's almost
there already..

I am sure I will be having another late one tonight..

Great game, well done Razorworks!

I'm glad to see your second post is more enthusiastic.  I actually bought
the game because of your first post (seeing that you're a sim fan and like
the game I thought it was worth trying out).  After playing it, I thought
you weren't glowing enough in your initial review.  Glad to see you've
joined the TIR fanboy team. :0)  Happy racing.

Joe

Do you, or have you had the "pausing" mid lap?

I got it when first installed, got rid of it (don't know how) but it has now
returned..

Every lap, 1-2 second pause (jitter) Pain in the ass

I have noted it is sound related.  Disabling m Sound Card gets rid of it,
but no sound, mmm bummer

Any ideas, your side..?

Ian /d

Luckily I haven't had any pausing.  I did have pausing with F1 2002 and CFS3
both caused my detonator drivers.  The 28.32's for F1 2002 and the 40.72
(beta) for CFS3.  I'm using the official drivers (30.82's) and nothing
stutters for me now.  I do notice that some turns get a little choppy
(reminds me of Sports Car GT which was poorly coded since it never ran
smooth for me even a few years later).

BTW, what are your settings and how are your fps?  I'm using fraps to test
fps and I get a pretty steady 35+ on most courses (the lowest is Hockenheim
long straight it drops to 25) running 1600x1200x32-bit no FSAA and all
graphics set to max or on depending on the item (except I turned mirrors off
since it seems to be a fps hog). Again like SCGT which had terrible mirrors.
I'm surprised a modern game has mirror trouble, F1 2002 runs silky smooth on
my system with mirrors and a full field of cars (30 start of race 50 during
the race).  The mirrors aren't a biggie for now since I programmed my wheel
button to look back and I'm looking at a new processor in a month or two.

My specs: AMD 1600+/512 MB RAM/GF4 ti4400 (30.82).

> Hey Joe, I'm on my way to get a copy tomorrow. It better be good! ;-)

Hey, I'm still suffering from the 24-hour post purchase euphoria, I'm not
responsible for any statements until Friday. ;0)

I forget what video card you're running since you go through them like
underwear (I think you have a GF4 Ti 4200 or 4400).  Let me save you some
trouble.  Set all graphics max.  Run the game at 1024x768x32-bit, Quincunx,
2x anisotropic.  The graphics look very nice with these settings and I avg.
30 fps on tracks with longer straights and 40 fps on curvy tracks.  I
originally ran 1600x1200x32-bit but the graphics where too grainy/shimmering
(mipmaping issue?  I'm not an expert) and my framerates were the same as
they are now with FSAA on (I'm only running an AMD 1600 so I need more
processor).

The nicest graphical touch in this game is the pavement glare coming around
a turn at sunset, it looks incredibly realistic.  After playing this game
with the dynamic lighting F1 2002 looks very flat and bland.  I also cannot
get enough of the AI which will follow closely and wait for the right chance
to pass.  The only AI complaint is that they enjoy banging a little too much
but they don't spin me easily so it's fun and certainly adds to the tension.

Take your time and enjoy the full game, don't look for codes to unlock
cars/tracks (first I get you to spend your money, now I tell you how to play
the game).  Career mode is ***ive, I'm anxious to finish my current
season so I can earn a shot at a new race team (meaning a new car).
Although I'm e***d about racing the Audi R8, I'm enjoying the process of
working my way up the ladder from the Audi TT.

Enjoy.  If you don't, it's Ian's fault since he bought it first. ;0)

I am playing CFS3 with DX 8.2 installed and TIR runs maaavelously so I'm not
sure WTF Empire is talking about.  BTW, running WinXP SP1.

Same here.

DX 8.2... no problems here either as far as controllers go, reasonable Force
feedback through my trusty MOMO
